The term ‘patriarchy’ needs no introduction.
It is now a common term of debate in educated masses, especially the female community. Patriarchy has shown its severe impact on the development of women in the human history and the result is their backwardness in almost all spheres of life.
Women always associate it with their independence from the dominance of male in the society. It is true but as there are two sides of a coin so here too there are certain factors which should be taken into consideration before putting all blames and abuses to the side of patriarchy.
• The first and foremost thing is the biological aspect. Nature has created woman as such and there are certain limits within which she can function whatever the circle it may be; the earth or the human society. It is true for man also. He too has his limits. He cannot act as an organ of reproduction and produce his progeny without the help of the woman. The Woman has her limits. She cannot function with complete freedom. She has a frail stature and needs help as and when undergoing the process of reproduction. Here man comes to her help by providing food and shelter, not that other women cannot help her but a partner is needed to bring up the infant properly.
• Secondly, history has very small figures of females fighting on the battlefields. She cannot remain outdoors all the time but man can, so patriarchy comes to play its role.
• Thirdly, she can fall an easy prey to the filthy desires of man in the society which can create disorder.
• Fourthly, the whole human civilization will have to undergo a change to reverse patriarchy which is impossible. There are matriarchal societies which are very few in number. They have not shown any development as compared to patriarchal society.
• Last but not the least, it is very difficult to say that patriarchal set up is completely present in the modern society because woman is the most important figure involved in the decision-making process whether at home or in the field. She is consulted everywhere. The fact that deprives her of this privilege is her fugitive nature and herself acting as the center of attraction which disturbs the environment.
Finally,
If you are a parent: A mother- Are you ready to leave your baby in the hands of your husband and go out to work ?
The answer will be a big ‘No’.
So think positively. Why not think in direction of equality if at all we need to think.
it is the female who has to understand her position in the society and make the male realize that he has to give her the space she is authorized to share with him.
The conclusions of the analysis are familiar – women need more consciousness raising in order to understand their oppression. Men need educating out of their sexism. This, coupled with a fairer distribution of housework and childcare, can help to overcome patriarchy as an ideological system.
