World Arabic Language Day (WALD), also known as the UN Arabic Language Day, is celebrated on 18 December. It was first established by the UNESCO in 2010. We all celebrate this day to promote cultural understanding and encourage dialogue among people who speak different languages.

The first time ever I saw such excitement and preparation for WALD. For instance, tweets regarding this day started circulating a week early on Twitter. One of the ideas to spread awareness for the day, was to tweet in Arabic using the hashtag #بالعربي (meaning in Arabic) with the intention that by the 18th of December the hashtag would be trending on Twitter.
