Why are injections given in particular body parts?

Have you ever been injected? Do you know the science behind injection? No? Read below to find out a bit more about injections.

Generally, the word Injection refers to a type of medical procedure where a certain type of fluid is injected into the body of the patient. While the activity might seem normal, it is necessary to know that infusion of the liquid is governed along factors like-

1. Depth

2. Amount

3. Area

4. Requirement

Do you know the main aim of injection is to direct the drug to the targeted area?

For maximum effect, it is necessary that specific drugs are injected into specific body parts and for this, the syringe seems to play the perfect tool. Indeed, for a drug to be effective it is necessary that they are inserted into a specific location. Also, this practice of targeted insertion of drugs does not allow development of any side-effects from the drug.

Keeping the above aim in mind, Injections get classified on basis of depth infusion. Major types are-

1. Intradermal- Inserted in skin layers ( majorly for skin allergies, anti-tetanus etc.)

2. Intravenous- Inserted directly into the veins.

3. Intramuscular- Infused in the muscle ( Vaccines/hormones )

4. Subcutaneous injections- For slower absorption.

Also, are found injections like Anaesthesia( inserted where they are required).

So it is for better targeting of drugs, better result, and minimum side-effects that we are injected on particular body parts.
