Has it ever happened to you that you wake up right in the middle of the night due to a parched throat or a full bladder and on your way back, you realized that the time on the clock is exactly 3 AM? This time is the infamous ‘witching hour,' the time of the day when the devil is at his strongest.
Paranormal activities and dark forces are said to operate during this hour, and many perceive it as the time when spirits and demons are up to their sinister work.
Unholy Hour
This particular phrase has a fascinating history as it is said that Jesus Christ died at 3 PM, which is the complete opposite of 3 AM. Based on the interpretation of the holy Bible, Jesus was said to have died at the ninth hour, after 3 hours of darkness, from the 6th hour, which roughly translated to 3 PM. The prayers in the church commence during certain holy hours which are called the Canonical hours. They are 3 hours long and considered to be the holy hours when good energies are the strongest, especially mid-afternoon at 3. There is absolutely no prayer held during the slot between 3 AM to 4 AM. This is also why the devil runs rampant with his forces during this hour.

Witch Hunt
Many women in the old era had to pay a hefty price if they were caught outside their home during this hour. They had to either present a good reason to step out at that time of the night, else she was branded a witch and burned at stake. This practice made ‘the witching hour’ all the more notorious and put a dread in people to avoid this time of the night.

Devil At Play
Many paranormal investigators associate this time of the day with unusual activities, and this is when many sacrifices and ritual take place to please the devil and gain powers. A lot of people believe that to wake up at 3 AM for no reason suddenly means someone is watching you and it is not advisable to stay up at that time. Wiccans also practice spells and other rituals at this period of the night when the energies are in their prime.
A lot of movies such as 'The Conjuring' and 'The Exorcism of Emily Rose' depict this to be a very unholy hour, but scientifically there is no logic behind it. Because the body is completely at rest at this point and the heartbeat, cardiac pressure and pulse rate are irregular, it is normal to feel a bit jittery or cold.
