Why is it Important to Not Let Success get to your Head?

“Once you reach the top, take care as the only way left to go is down.” – Darren Bateman

There is no doubt about the fact that success is hard to achieve. It can take years of hard work and toil to reach a stage where nothing is impossible. From owning luxury cars to villas nothing may be impossible anymore. You can practically own everything you have ever hoped for. But is that all success is about? Owning luxury items, having servants around you and being popular is not the success. What you do after you have reached that stage is what counts for your success. How you behave with people who are not as successful as you are and how you take your success is what matters. Do you let your success get to your head and failure to your heart?

Failure On The Heart

Just as success gets on people’s head, failure gets on people’s heart. When a person faces failure in life then it becomes difficult for them to stay determined to walk on the path to success. Failures bring disappointment which saddens a person’s heart. Nobody achieves success without working hard for it. in the process of working your way up to success, you face a lot of failures. Failures are lessons that you learn till you achieve what you wanted. When do you fail? You fail when you have made a mistake. Success can be achieved only after you have learned the perfect way to do something and only failures can teach you that. If you fail then remind yourself that you are getting one step closer to success. When you think positively you will be able to achieve what you never thought you could.

Success To The Head

Letting your success get your heart means that you have totally absorbed the idea of success in everything you do. The way you talk, walk and behave shows that you are too proud of your success. Your success speaks instead of your humility. When you start feeling that nobody is better than you and that you can do anything in the world because of your power then you are allowing your success to get on your head.

Why Should You Not Let Success Get To Your Head?

#1.
The people around you are afraid of you or they do not like to talk because they know that you will look down upon them. Your help at home or your employees at work do not speak when you are around. Your employees being afraid of you can be fatal for your company because if they do not find it comfortable to work then your employee retention  will decrease.

#2. The family and the friends have left you because you do not care about them anymore. Every relationship needs respect and care which you have failed to express after you achieved success. Your attitude has repelled people away from your life.

#3. You are always about you. Whenever you talk to someone, you find it difficult to talk about anything else except your success. You boast about what you have achieved, and every event is about your story of success. It is good to inspire people, but you should also not make others feel bad by boasting about what you have achieved.

#4. Success is temporary. You will not always be in the same place as you are today if you do not handle your success well. After you have reached the top, there is nothing above it. There is only a way down. If you allow success to get in your head, then you will be digging your way down.

#5. Success is like a drug that makes you think that everything is fine but inside you know you are hiding all the issues under the surface. You do not meet a lot of issues just because you do not find it necessary to tackle them. You think that one small problem cannot harm you much. But when these small issues gather they make one big problem which you will not be able to come out of.

#6. If you let success to your head then either you will lose the interest to learn more, or you will become greedy to grab more. Nothing at extreme is good for anyone. A play ‘Doctor Faustus’ written by Christopher Marlowe underlines that too much knowledge and the greed to learn more can be dangerous as it can lead to your fall. The moment pride turns into vanity the man falls. And if you do not have the urge to learn more your life will become stagnant and ultimately reaching the point where you started.

#7. When you allow your success to get over your head, you forget the purpose of your being. You forget the original plan you had after you become successful. There was a reason why you wanted to be at the place where you are today. Thinking about success and celebrating it makes you forget the initial thought behind your hard work and struggle.

#8. You did not achieve success on your own. Other people helped you reach the top but did you than them? Did you give them a share in your success? When your success gets on your head, you forget the people who stood by you and had faith in you. You may have thanked them once, but that is not enough. If they do not back you know, you will fall, and this fall will be a huge one.

It is great to have achieved success in life. Not everyone gets the opportunity to sit on a golden throne but you should not allow success to get to your head. Let us learn how you should not let your success get on your head.

How Should You Not Let Success Get To Your Head?

#1. If you do not want your success to get on your head, then you should start practicing humility. There is no bigger a human quality than being humble. If you are a successful person, then it means that you have the power to change things. You have the experience that the others are looking for. You were once in the same position and by behaving rudely and inhumanly with the ones working under you are doing what others might have done. Now that you have grown as a rich person then you should try being richer at heart. Do not let the old struggling you leave your body.

#2. Visit adoption houses and old age homes to see what the world is missing and how misery is still everywhere near you. By raising your own building, you cannot deny impoverishment around you. You have seen people struggle and a million of them are still struggling. Put your success to a good cause, and you will always find yourself grounded.

#3. Practice appreciating others. It is hard to appreciate others when you know how barbarous the world is but some people are really good at heart and wish to achieve success like you. Your employees and your help at home need appreciation to work harder for you. Start giving time to your family and loved ones because life without them is unimaginable.

#4. Keep the memories of your struggle close so that every day when you wake you realize what you have achieved and you do not forget what you suffered from. The struggle taught you a lot of things that you should not forget even after you have achieved success.

#5. Who makes you powerful? Who makes you a famous personality? The people who follow you make you famous. Do not give your followers a reason to dislike you. Give them more reasons to be inspired. Do something that compels people to look at you as their ideals. Support those people who are struggling and looking at you with hopes. Help those people you think have the potential so that they can create their own identities by doing something better for the society.

#6. Start learning new things. There is a lot in the world to learn. Learn a new language or learn something you feel you cannot do. You have achieved success but you have not become perfect. You are not the only person who is successful. You are still part of a competitive world, and if you stop learning, then someone else will take up that space where you stand. So learn something that will help you maintain your position.

#7. Be grateful to God who gave the power to suffer from the hardships of life and never forgets that you cannot be the mightiest. You are there in this world for some reason, and you need to work for that. Keep searching that purpose of your life until you finally find one. Be grateful to all the people and do not forget your values and ethics ever in your life.
