Amitbhai Anilchandra "Amit" Shah is an Indian politician from Gujarat and the current President of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Shah was elected as an MLA from Sarkhej in four consecutive elections: 1997, 1998, 2002 and 2007.

The chief leader of the Bhartiya Janta Party - Amit Shah said that Mahatma Gandhi was a chatur baniya. He also said that Congress was not rooted in any of the ideology or principles and was sort of a special purpose vehicle to secure freedom.

Amit Shah, With Wife And Son, Arrives In Gujarat Assembly To Big Welcome.

Amit Shah, Gujarat legislator, arrived at the state assembly in Gandhinagar on Thursday morning to a huge welcome from hundreds of BJP workers and also MLAs and ministers. The BJP chief, who is the party MLA from the Naranpura constituency, is attending an assembly session after two years. Mr Shah had last attended a session in March, 2015.

The BJP chief was accompanied by his wife and son. Among those who greeted him with flowers was the BJP's state chief Jitu Vaghani and Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.  

Amit Shah is on a two-day visit to his home state to take stock of preparations for state elections later this year and is holding multiple meetings with top party leaders in the state.

Goa BJP to Felicitate Amit Shah For Electoral Victory

The BJP in Goa would felicitate its national president Amit Shah on April 9 over the party securing power in four of the five states which went to polls recently.

"BJP Goa unit would be felicitating Amit Shah on April 9 for leading the party and forming the government in four states after the recently held assembly elections," party's Goa Unit President Vinay Tendulkar told on Tuesday.

A public meeting would be organised at Campal ground in the state capital, which will be attended by over 30,000 people, he said.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, who played a key role in stitching up an alliance of regional outfits and independents paving the way for the BJP to form its government in Goa, will also be present at the meeting, he said.

This would be Shah's first visit to Goa after the February 4 Legislative Assembly elections.

The BJP, which finished second in Goa winning 13 seats, managed to form the government under Manohar Parrikar after cobbling together an alliance with regional parties like Goa Forward and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party besides getting three Independent MLAs to back them.

The BJP scored spectacular wins in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

In Goa and Manipur, where it fell short of a simple majority, the BJP managed to form ministries by securing the support of smaller groups and independents, frustrating the moves of rival Congress.


Amitbhai Anilchandra Shah wellknown by the name Amit Shah was born on 22nd October, 1964 at Mumbai. He was born to a wealthy Jain family in Mumbai. His father Anilchandra Shah used to run a business dealing in PVC pipes. Amit Shah completed his schooling in Mehsana and pursued his graduation in bio-chemistry from CU Shah Science College in Ahmedabad. He joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at the age of 14. Amit Shah handled his father's business for some time. He briefly worked as a stock-broker and also with co-operative banks in AhmedabadThe same year, Amit Shah became the secretary of the RSS' student body Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). He joined the BJP in 1986. A year later, Amit Shah became an activist with BJP's youth wing Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) and gradually rose through the ranks of the party. He went on to hold various important posts within the party such as state secretary, vice president and general secretary, among others. Amit Shah campaigned for senior BJP leader L.K. Advani who contested the 1991 General Elections from Gandhi Nagar parliamentary constituency in Gujarat. In the mid 1990s, BJP formed the government in Gujarat with Keshubhai Patel as the chief minister. At that time, the Indian National Congress was highly influential in the rural areas of Gujarat. Amit Shah, along with Narendra Modi, was given the responsibility by the party high command to undermine Congress' influence in the state. Shah and Modi were able to convince a large number of people to join BJP. Many of these people had lost elections for the Village Chief's post in their respective villages.

NEW DELHI: Contrary to media reports that Yogi Adityanath was a "surprise" choice as BJP's chief minister for Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party chief Amit Shah had always considered the Gorakhpur sanyasi as a strong contender. And RSS had very little to do with the decision.
