Amma's noteworthy contributions towards the welfare of Tamil Nadu

All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AAIDMK) leader K Jayalalithaa died recently after battling different health issues.

The late Chief Minister has left behind a legacy which she earned by great determination and far-sightedness.

Some of her noteworthy contributions towards the development of Tamil Nadu are as:

1. Rainwater Harvesting Projects

She was called as “Water Goddess” by her followers. She had introduced rainwater harvesting scheme in 2001 which brought improvement in ground water levels over the years. This innovation was replicated by other states in the country.


2. Power Surplus State

Jayalalithaa was able to make Tamil Nadu a power surplus state. She was able to add 8,432 Mw in the last five years in Tamil Nadu. During the current financial year, the state is likely to have an additional production of 11,649 million units. The entire credit for turning Tamil Nadu from a power deficit state to power surplus state goes to Jayalalithaa.

3. Attracted Investments

Jayalalithaa was able to attract massive infrastructure investments to Tamil Nadu. She had been instrumental in attracting FDI worth $20 million to Tamil Nadu. Additionally, she was able to raise over Rs 2.43 Lakh Crore of investment during the Global Investors Summit.

The loss of Jayalalithaa’s death is hard to compensate and India has lost a great leader in her death.
