Do you think that the internet and television will eventually make books obsolete?

Technology evolves at such a rapid pace making everything in its path obsolete. Floppy disks, CD-ROM, VCRs have become obsolete. Even DVDs are slowing dying at the hands of the streaming website such as Netflix. Every household has a Television set and a personal computer giving easy access to every member of the family to infinite sources of entertainment. The Internet has taken over traditional media, so much so, that both print and television media are endangered too. But, through all of this, books have survived. Sure, people have started preferring e-books instead of traditional books, but the magic of turning page after page and delving into the depths of a story is still unmatched by any form of media.

Books are no ordinary form of entertainment. They are so much more. They create a magical world that is created with a combination of the author’s words and the reader’s imagination. While every form of media and entertainment helps us escape our daily life, books manage to create an alternate life we can live in as long as we are immersed in its pages.

My Top 5 reasons why books will never get obsolete:

1.    They Create Nostalgia:

When you re-read your favorite book, you are transported back in time to the first time you read it, which is impossible with any other form of media. Every page of the book holds beautiful memories.

2.    They Act As Collectibles:

My entire set of hardback Lord Of the Rings or Harry Potter books is a collectible item that nothing else can replace.

3.    They Give Space To Your Imagination:

Information is not spoon-fed in a book. Every detail is beautifully explained so that your brain can process and imagine the situation like you were there.

4.    They Create An Intangible Bond:

Every book you read has an irreplaceable part in your life. The books you read define you as a person and have a huge emotional connect with you.

5.    They Have An Unimaginable Depth:

Well-written books can immerse you in the depth of their storytelling and fill you with such emotion that you conflict between finishing the book to know the story and reading as slowly as possible so that the experience never ends.

That’s why I believe printed books are irreplaceable and will never become obsolete even with the onset of newer technological innovations.
