To keep everything sustainable, we need storage facilities to bank all the data we have at our disposal. While there are several options for storage on computers, mobile phones, perhaps one viable mode of memory saving is memory cards.
Memory cards come in small sizes and generally have a space ranging from as low as 4 GB to as high as 256 GB. Talking of memory cards, there are two popular types microSD and TF cards. While people often think they’re the same, there lie some differences between the two. We try to track down all of them. Take a look:
MicroSD, where the SD stands for Secure Digital is a flash drive that provides the option of portable memory cards. They are mostly used in smartphones and apart from saving the usual pictures and videos, also have a few uses in GPS devices. They’re small cards, almost the size of a fingernail.

TF stands for Trans Flash, and these were the first microSD cards released by the company SanDisk in the year 2004. They are especially designed for smartphone usage. They were inducted into the SD Card Association family in the year 2005 and were the third installment of flash memory options after SD cards and mini SD cards.

To begin with, the general usage and the form factor of both these cards is the same. The fundamental difference lies in the density of these cards, as the TF cards are a bit denser than their microSD counterparts. That leads us to other major differences between the two. Take a look:
#1.Although they look, feel and perform the same, the first dissimilarity between the two arises from the fact that microSD cards are capable of performing several non-memory related tasks. For instance, they support the SDIO mode which means that they are capable of carrying out tasks as GPS, Bluetooth and Near Field Communications (NFC). A TF card is restricted to only memory related tasks.
#2.MicroSD cards come with a limited memory range of only up to 32 GB. For storage options of 64GB and above, TF cards are used.
