Food, clothing and shelter are every citizen’s basic needs. With rapid urbanisation, more people are heading to cities in search of work. As a result, the demand for low-cost housing is rising in both rural and urban areas. The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), the government’s flagship low-cost housing programme, aims at providing housing for all by 2022.
Understanding Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY)
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana proposes to build 2 crore houses by March 31, 2022. Whatever section of the society you may be from, you can apply for a house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana if fulfil the PMAY eligibility criteria. It also offers financial assistance and subsidies under the Credit-Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS) to certain sections when buying a home. The scheme has been designed in such a way that it makes housing affordable for not just the economically weaker sections (EWS) and low-income group (LIG) but also the mid-income group (MIG).
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Eligibility
- You or any member of your family should not own a pucca house.
- The family should compromise of you, your spouse and unmarried children.
- For EWS and LIG, you must have an income between Rs.3 lakh to Rs.6 lakh per annum.
- For MIG 1 category, you should have an annual household income between Rs.6 lakhs to Rs.12 lakhs.
- For MIG 2 category, your earnings should be between Rs.12 lakhs to Rs.18 lakhs per annum.
- Your age at the end of the repayment tenor must be less than 70 years.
- You must apply for the scheme from 17th June 2015 to 31st March 2022. Avail this scheme before the - Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana last date.

How to Apply for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Online
You need to visit the official website for PMAY created by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation.
You need to click on the “Citizen Assessment” link, from the main menu and then select the appropriate link for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Online application form.
Here, you will have to fill in all the mandatory fields that pop up. These will include details like the name of the head of the family, current residential address, contact details etc.
After filling all the information, click the “Save” button at the end of the form. Once you’re done, you can track your status by clicking on “track assessment status”.
If you don’t prefer filling out your application online, you can visit a local Citizen Service Centre (CSC) to do so too.
How to Apply for PMAY through Citizen Service Centres (CSC)
Here are several benefits of pmay scheme. Applying for PMAY through Citizen Service Centres (CSC) is different from the online method. Here, you will first need to find your nearest CSC among over 6000 across the country to start the application.
Log on to the Common Service Center - Apna CSC Online.
You will be directed to a page that will let you choose the State, District and Block name.
Once you fill in the details, it will present to you a list of CSCs close to you.
Pick the one that best suits you, pay Rs.25 application fee at the centre, go through a KYC procedure and submit your form.
