Got an interview call?
Cold sweat trickling down your forehead?
Drawing a blank?
Trembling at the thought of an interview?
Feel a panic attack approaching?
Fear and anxiety can be disabling.
Nervousness in an interview is common and interviewers do take that into consideration. But if you go prepared, it won't consume you.
With these easy-to-follow tips, you’ll ace the interview with confidence and grace.
The importance of planning cannot be undermined. Preparation is everything, no shortcuts can be applied here.
- Research on the company you’re applying to
- Prepare your thoughts about the company, about the company’s competitors and about the industry
- Be sure of the job role (in detail) being offered
- Get to know the interviewer’s details (in advance, if you can) to establish a healthy connect
- Prepare and collate all the official documents that need to be submitted
- Prepare a set of questions to discuss with the interviewer
Prepare answers to a set of standard interview questions (easy and difficult ones included) that are usually asked around. Focus more on the ones you dread the most and spend more time practising them. Rehearsing until you’re confident is the key.
This is a key derivative from human psychology - nothing boosts a man’s confidence like a well-dressed man. First impressions are everything. Don’t underdress, invest in good formal wear. Your dressing tagged with a smile will increase the chances of leaving a good first impression.
Visit a funny friend or listen to your favourite playlist that peps up your mood. Watch your favourite movie, order your favourite dish or go back to those motivational quotes you’ve saved up. Do light exercises, dance around, let those endorphins release. Keep yourself happy and motivated.
What is the worst that can happen? This is the most important aspect to remember - you’ve got absolutely nothing to lose (except time). If you don’t get this job, a better opportunity will come your way. The thought itself (of not having anything to lose) will depressurize all your anxiety and put you at ease. Stay cheerful, maintain a positive outlook and the rest of the interview will be taken care of.
- Look up the interview location on Google Maps or visit the location a day in advance to get familiar with directions
- On the day of interview, be punctual or better yet - reach early
- Acknowledge everyone in the room
- Ditch the negative talk and accentuate the positive
- Keep it light and keep it real
It's time to face your fears. Have you bid goodbye to your fear yet?
