How to Heal Emotionally?

"Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it." - Helen Keller

The ideas of our desired existence clash with the present state of our being, producing a conflict in mind. The conflict induces anxiety and emotional distress that hinders the normal functioning of an individual. All the damaging emotions like sorrow, denial, rejection, self-hatred veil an individual’s working efficiency. Due to these depressing feelings, a person causes harm to self as these feelings do not leave the mind casually. Humans tend to attract off-putting feelings that stay longer than the constructive ones. Emotional distress can trouble an individual for a long span of time if not healed. Sufferings will never end, but healing can begin today.

Complications in one’s life have several shapes. They can be in the form of a broken relationship, daunting accident or something completely different. A person going through a disturbing relationship can be emotionally in pain. Relationships are crucial to every human’s existence. Social communication is significant for a human’s well being. Humans are social animals. They need relationships to depend on in times when nothing feels right and when everything seems perfect. We build such relationships in the form of friends, lovers, and family to secure ourselves from an unknown fear of loss. But the relationships get hampered with time when they are not nourished with love and affection. The drift between two people causes stress and anxiety leading to emotional hurt.

The world is full of mishaps either natural or man-made like a flood or famine responsible for the destruction of a lot of lives. The loss of a dear one can traumatize a person in a manner that it takes them back. The person may stop eating and working, owing to the impact of the loss. Some incidents are such in nature that inflicted harm on the person directly. Theft, rape, bully, catcalling are some incidents that push a person into a zone that does not allow them to overcome the shock that they leave on them. It becomes challenging to heal emotionally out of such dreadful incidents. Every person must know how to heal emotionally. So, let us go through how you can emotionally heal.

#1. Accept The Inevitable With Courage

You cannot live your whole life wondering about all that could have happened, or you could have done. Some things in life are inevitable, and you have no control over them. They will enter your life when it is time, and they will leave as soon as the purpose of its existence is over. Everything that happens has a reason behind its occurrence, and you should focus on learning its objective rather than lamenting over the whole episode. No doubt it brought a lot of pain and damage in your life, and it will not be easy to get over it. And that is why you need to understand that some things will never be under your knowledge. You will never be aware of what is going to happen the next moment. And this is the fun in life. You will not know what is going to happen with you so accept whatever comes your way without losing faith in your life.

#2. Time Can Heal Everything. Stay Patient

Time has the magical powers to heal a person. Well, there is nothing magical in it. As the time passes, a person gets busy in their life, and they forget about the event gradually. You should leave everything over time. When the time passes the things that affected you in the past will not affect you anymore. New things will happen, and you will get busy in them. The importance that the present issue has will decrease over time as newer opportunities will knock your door. When you leave everything, you just harm yourself over time and again. The only way you can get over things is to allow it to heal on its own. The pain that your relationship gave you will not be the pain anymore after some time because then you will realize how important it was for you to get out of that relationship. Look into your past and think how many things that happened still affect you. Probably there will not be any because you got over them gradually.

#3. Give Up Possession And Control

The biggest problem with most of us is that we try to possess things and people to build a control over them. When half the things in our life are inevitable, we like to control things we possess. The people we love and the objects we own give us a feeling of possession, and when we do not find something appropriate, then we like to change them. You should stop doing that. You cannot possess everything and every person. Each person has a way of living, and they can take their own decisions without your approval. When you try to control others, they will revolt against you and not be able to control something you thought you had an authority of then the conflict in mind arises. The conflict then creates emotional distress. Therefore, avoid controlling things.

#4. Understand The Suffering And Learn

The problems that have surrounded you from everywhere have a purpose. Understand why did it affect you? What was the intention and what made you react to it? When you think about what has been happening with you, then you are able to analyze the situation in a better way, and ultimately you are able to conclude the situation with a solution. The solution can only be reached when you learn the whole situation and when you learn about yourself. Learn what it told you about yourself. Take notes and remember next time what you should not do in order to protect yourself from such a situation again. The stress that builds up when you are not able to understand the situation and get answers to your questions will take an exit from your life if you look into it instead of running away.

#5. Take Responsibility For Your Actions

It is very vital for a person to take responsibility for their life. Every decision you make and every action you take is related to you and will affect you. Do not let other people influence your decisions. Be yourself and do what you want to do in life. When you listen to what others ask you to do then you lose control over your actions. You cannot allow other people to make decisions for you because you have your own wishes and goals that you want to achieve in life. Someone else will never understand what those dreams mean to you and they will never be able to know what is right and wrong for you. Taking responsibility will not allow the emotional pain to take roots in your mind.

#6. Vent Out Your Negative Emotions

You may be angry, depressed or intimidated by something in your life. Keeping all those emotions inside of your body will not help you in any way. Instead, it will make your body hollow by eating you mentally. The stress and all these emotions gathered destroy your inner peace and construct a home that will not permit you to work peacefully. The balance between the mind and the body is important. The disturbance in mind will disturb the body, and your health will drop. You can write down your emotions on a paper and then tear it down or burn. This may sound silly, but it works. All the aggression and hurt will burn along with the paper. You could also scream alone if you feel that it will make you feel better. Take a pillow and stuff your face in to scream. The pent-up emotions will not bother you anymore.

#7. Get Psychological Support

When the emotional pain has been living inside you for a long time, and it refuses to leave, then you should consult a counselor or a psychologist. They will help you in getting out of the depressing trap of emotions. They will solve the problem from the roots. A psychologist will look into your history and your background to study what affects you and why. They will also test you medically to examine if you have some ailment or disorder. There are lots of psychological tests to observe what personality type a person is, and according to the personality and the kind of conflict, the psychologist will advise you. Getting emotional support is important for every person because we need to share our feelings with someone otherwise they keep piling up affecting us in various ways. What one can do is to never leave oneself alone. Always stay in someone’s company because emotional pain can evoke suicidal thoughts as well.

A human’s emotions are responsible for the functioning in daily life. If a person is
content in his life then the person will lead a better successful life than the person
who is depressed. A person who is depressed will not be able to function properly
in their life because the negative emotions make it difficult for them to move
ahead in their lives. The feeling of pain and sorrow does not allow them to think
about anything else apart from the thing that gives them the distress. It becomes
difficult to get over certain incidents in life because they have a left a grave mark
on your memory.
When someone loses their loved one it becomes very hard for the person to think
about anything else because everything around reminds them of the person they
lost.  The person starts believing that it has become impossible to grow out of the
pain because it hinders their work day and night.  It is significant to heal
emotionally to be able to grow in your life. If someone wants to heal emotionally
then they should take a decision first that this pain is unwanted and only then
they can really grow out of it. It happens often that people starting seeking
pleasure in their pain. They stick closer to the pain because it gives them some of
sort of relief. Sticking to your pain obstructs the life and nothing positive will ever
happen and even if it does you will not be able to recognize it. You will be busy in
indulging in your pain and so the good things that happen around you will be
ignored.
If you are sick of this situation in your life and you really want to move out of the
vicious web of emotional pain then you should begin with talking about your pain.
When you hide your pain inside your heart it begins to swell inside taking up all
the space inside your heart. This mean that the pain increases with time and it
leaves no space for other emotions like cheer and joy to stay.  People often say
that sharing sadness decreases it and sharing happiness increases it. I believe that
it’s true. Sharing your pain with others makes it half in its intensity. You will not
have the stress anymore when you talk to your friends or family about it. It is vital
to take it out of your system if you want to heal emotionally. Friends always help
you in any situation because that is what friends are for. They will not only listen
to you but they will also advice you the right way to deal with the situation. They
will stick with you throughout so that you do not have to face anything alone.
After you have shared what bothers you with your friends you should be feeling
very light hearted. Once you have shared everything you should start keeping
yourself busy in other things. Do not leave time to think about anything else. Soon
you will forget all your pain and you will begin a new life.
