Taimur
Timur or Taimur Lang or Tamerlane was a barbaric Turco-Mongol conqueror. Think, what type of people could be fascinated by this name?
Does a name not matter really?
Actually, some modern think-tanks are in a “Do your own business.” mode. It is not that they do not know what the word Taimur symbolizes. More interesting, some learned chaps argue that nothing is there in a name, rather it is the works that matter. Well so do they mean one can use even bad names as the pet names for such think- tanks? That also is OK?
No connection with India
This brutal Taimur was born in Uzbekistan. His birth-place Transoxiana was near the city of Kesh near Samarkand. So the first thing is that the name has no Indian connection. So where is the appeal of the name? Was there no Indian name available?
Is some charm coming from this?
Some more about Taimur
Though in his childhood he was just a thief who raided travelers for goods with his gang, Taimur in due course got great strength and had his coronation on 9 April, 1370 and all his history since then is the history of murders, massacres, forced conversions to Islam, unethical use of the symbols of the Islamic teachings for his military and personal interests.
This bloodthirsty man declared himself as the successor of Genghis Khan. And Genghis Khan is known for his brutality and unlawful military deeds.

The massacre of people and constructing pyramids of their heads was a routine practice that he enjoyed most. Another thing, Babur was the great-great-great grandson of Taimur. Babur, the founder of the Mughal Empire, who invaded India and did all unlawful and unethical things here.
So in the perspective of India, the word Taimur is deeply related to Genghis Khan and Babur too.
Why should we mind our own business?
So actually there seem to be other role models, as well, for those who advocate this name. So it is really suicidal to just mind our own business, as the sponsored think-tanks suggest. Rather it is really needed that we mind such businesses very closely and comprehend their mindsets and reasons behind.
It is not about the kid
It is not about the kid. Naturally, the kid has not named himself. It is about those who picked this name and yes, with some intention. A child is a boon, indeed. May God bless him and may situations change and sooner or later his name, too!
