President Donald Trump has called for an immediate end to the Diversity Visa Lottery Program that was developed with the aim of expanding the immigrant population in the US. This action was the outcome of Manhattan terror attack which left 11 people injured and 8 dead. And since it was discovered that the man who carried out the attack had used the diversity visa (won in a lottery) to enter the country, some action was expected.
This visa program had earlier drawn criticism for giving rise to visa frauds, increasing the threat to national security. However, I feel that it has also served the purpose of diversifying the population. So, to what extent is Trump's call to end the program justified when it comes to ensuring national security?
