Is it a virtue to forgive and forget?

The word ‘revenge’ is like an elixir for those who have been mistreated in life. The trauma they had to undergo is so terrible that such victims might fall into depression from which there is no escape. Even the capital punishments are imparted so as to provide relief to the victim or to the relatives of the victim.

But the futility of such actions has been proven wrong from time to time. The past won’t change and life won’t change. The only thing the victim gets is satisfaction. But will it remain for a long time? The same applies if your dear ones pass away. There is no point in brooding over the past or the wonderful memories when you live in the present and your dear ones are  in your memories. Life moves on. Time moves on. There is nothing in this world which doesn’t heal with the passing of time.

So, the ability to forget and forgive the wrongdoers or ability to move on with your life is the biggest virtue for us, human beings. It takes a great amount of ability and mental strength to get over that powerful feeling of getting even. But once you get over it, you will have an ultimate spiritual satisfaction.

But, also subtly reminding you of the fact that this is one virtue which should be imbibed into your ruotine that you in the name of being civilized. After all, Jesus Christ had stated –“Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to cast a stone.” So nobody in this world has a right to take the life of another being in the name of revenge.  If we are able to accept this truth, our world will be a better place.
