Modi To Take First Kochi Metro Ride Without E Sreedharan

The first metro of Kerala gets a prolific group that would be part of its first ride. Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be traveling on the Kochi metro train when he inaugurates it this Saturday on the 17th June. Though in a move that would be considered as a huge slight to the man who is famously called the Metro –Man; Elattuvalapil Sreedharan has not been included in the list of dignitaries that are part of the ride.

The construction of the Kochi Metro had begun in 2012 and in its first 25km phase the train would cover a distance of 3 km between Palarivattom and Aluva. The work still remains on the remaining section.

The distinguished panel that would be part of the ride consists of PM Modi, Governor P. Sathasivam, Information and Broadcasting Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Elias George who is the Managing Director of Kochi Metro Rail Corp has shrugged off all responsibilities for the exclusion of E Sreedharan from the list of invitees. According to him, the final list was decided by PMO.

Those joining E Sreedharan from the scrapped off list are Ramesh Chennithala, former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, local MP K.V. Thomas and local legislator PT Thomas. They are all leaders of the opposition.

PT Thomas though is not happy by this snub and calls it the blatant arrogance of  BJP leaders. The foundation stone for this dream project was laid down by the former PM Manmohan Singh and back then everyone was part of the dais.

E Sreedharan though is not surprised by the decision and has accepted it.
