Natural remedies for diarrhoea in toddlers

Infected food or water, heat, poor hygiene etc may be the reason for diarrhoea in your toddler. Home remedy is sufficient if the diarrhoea is mild. Your toddler should be kept well hydrated. He should not get dehydrated. This can give serious health problems. Diarrhoea can be mild or severe. If it is not treated properly, it may become fatal. Your child may lose appetite and get stomach pain. Yellow diarrhoea indicates infection. The immune system of your toddler will be weak since it is developing. He may grow weak after loose motions. In mild cases you can manage it at home. However in severe case you should contact a doctor immediately.

Here are some home remedies -

  1. Keep your child hydrated - Dehydration is a major complication. Offer him clear liquids like water or grape juice. Give him electrolyte replacement juices. Avoid sugary drinks. Add a pinch of salt in buttermilk and give him. Pomegranate juice is an excellent food.
  2. Increase fat and fiber - You should increase giving him fat and fiber. Give him lots of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and beans.
  3. Diet - The stomach of your toddler is highly delicate. Give him soft foods like rice and banana. Potassium content present in banana is very useful. Your toddler may love banana because of its sweet taste. Besides, you can also give him yogurt or curd rice. Potato is helpful in restoring the nutrients. You can give him vegetables in soup form.

Additional tips - Make sure that your kids wash their hands properly after using the toilet and before eating. Also, Keep your bathroom clean.
