PCOD/PCOS and why it is important

‘PCOD/PCOS’ if these terms seem newly introduced to you then you might need to enhance your general knowledge.

PCOD (polycystic ovarian disease) also known as PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) is a common reproductive health problem which most of the women in the course of the present day are unaware. The word 'common' here indicates as common as owning a car these days. As per the data, every 1 in 5 women is affected by PCOS attributing because of ignorance and lack of awareness. In fact, many women discover PCOD when they are unable to get pregnant.


So, what exactly is PCOS?

PCOS is a reproductive disorder which leads to the formation of cysts in the ovaries further discontinuing the process of ovulation. Since the body is unable to ovulate, it further leads to infertility making it hard for a woman to conceive or get pregnant. However, statically 20% of women with PCOS might not have a problem in ovulating or in getting pregnant.


How can we detect PCOS?

Look for signs and symptoms such as irregular periods, abnormal weight gain in the lower part of your body, facial hair or acne. Many women may not show these signs and still have PCOS. In that case, a pelvic exam or a transvaginal test can detect the formation of cysts in the ovaries.


How to cure PCOS?

A healthy routine and a proper diet are the only solutions for PCOS. Many doctors recommend losing weight as the ultimate treatment for PCOD. Further, you can:

1. Cut down the fat or carb intake from your diet chart.

2. Exercise daily.

3. Maintain a healthy lifestyle.

4. Do yoga.

A female reproductive health issue is as dangerous as cancer or any other health diseases. PCOS awareness is necessary as it can lead to much serious health complications sooner or later.
