Seniors who receive care from volunteers may live longer

It is a blessing to have born, and, leading a long and healthy life would be considered as the greatest bliss to all human beings. When we were little ones, our parents took care of us and once we reach adulthood, we tend to go in our own way and meet our parents during special occasions like weddings, celebrations, mother’s day, father’s day, thanksgiving day etc.

But when the parents are unable to take care of themselves, they become dependent on the children. The biggest irony is that there are children who would consider their parents to be a burden as either they do not have time and money to take care of the old parents or no love for them.

In both cases, the seniors might decide to move to an old age home. A friend of mine who runs an old age home said that a recent survey done on the lifetime of the adults showed that the people who lived in old care homes, lived longer and more happier and content than those who stayed back at home alone or in the care of their kids who have no affection for them.

  The love and care that a baby expects from the parents exists in his/her old age too as they expect the same from their young ones. When they do not receive that, they tend to become disheartened and die early when compared to those seniors who get love, care and pampering from the volunteers in the old age homes.

 When our mind and body are happy, we would want to live longer and thrive harder to fight against death and diseases, whereas those who are unhappy with their way of living would succumb to their disease and die early.

I feel that a volunteer is so very gifted and what could be more contentful than to see somebody in distress and pain to be happy. Bringing a smile on one’s face is the biggest blessing a young volunteer can acquire during his/her lifetime. So please spare some time for those who are underprivileged than us and keep them happy.

Let us bring in happiness in others’ lives.
