What Are The Seven Deadly Sins In The Bible?

The Holy Scriptures have a strong view on what is a sinful act in the eyes of the Lord and hence the emphasis on never indulging in these activities. There are 6 things that the Lord hates and 7 that he finds downright detestable.

“There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers” (Proverbs 6:16-19).

These sinful acts are completely forgivable if a man repents his action but that does not give him a free rein to commit them over and over again. According to the church, Jesus lived a sinless life and died for his people to abolish their sins, and by accepting him as one’s true lord, a person will be saved from punishment on the great Day of Judgment.

The seven deadly sins though do not predate the Ten Commandments but were rather put together by Pope Gregory I around the year 600. They are not mentioned specifically as seven deadly sins anywhere in the Bible nor are they compiled in such a list. The Bible does validate these sins, and they were used to teach mankind the wrongs and rights of life when Bible was available for everyone to read and study.

The Cure For Seven Deadly Sins In The Bible

The Bible suggests that a change of heart can only cure these sins and the ‘new heart ‘should be by the love and law of God. A person is powerless to bring this change in himself and only for god's sake can they overcome these evils and start a new life. With acceptance and power that God provides you, one will be able to commence a fresh start where they would no longer feel the need to partake in the sinful acts anymore.
