Do you know, When Do You Become an Adult?

Well, this is a tricky question as according to the standards of adulthood, a person who is 18 or above is an adult. However, I am 27 and I still feel that I am bad at doing all the things that an adult is conventionally expected to do. In short, I am bad at adulting even at the age of 27. However, as per my idea of an adult i feel that a person becomes and adult when he or she starts taking his own decisions, is free to do whatever he or she wants to do and has the authority of taking decisions on their own accord. An adult is someone who is matured enough to carry on his or her life smoothly and can tackle the difficult situations in his or her life. Although sometimes, a person is not able to take all his or her decisions, does not have the freedom to act the way he or she wants. In such cases even if a person reached the age of 40, he or she might not be an adult when it comes to the mental state but as per the definition of an 'adult' he or she will be considered as one. Therefore, it purely depends on us whether we want to call a person an adult on the basis of his or her age and the conventional definition of an adult or on his or her ability to act freely, take decisions sensibly. I feel it better to call a person an adult on the basis of his or her mental capabilities while most of the people consider an 18 years or old or above an adult.

Dear User,

First of all, we would like to thank you for posting your query on our website. And secondly, you have asked a pretty thought-provoking question! Let us tell you how the things work. Adulthood in biological terms essentially starts when a person (both males and females) hits puberty. In numbers and in a legal sense, you become an adult when you leave behind your teenage years and turn 18 years old. But, if you ask us otherwise, one becomes an adult when he/ she enter the period of maturity. True adulthood really does not begin until you become self-sufficient and are ready to take up the worldly challenges.

Adulthood basically occurs when the thin line between childhood and maturity starts to blur and it somewhat makes you grow up, not just physically but even emotionally. Feeling like a kid is one thing but growing up is entirely different. Some people grow in number but never want to leave behind their carefree attitude. So, this does not mean they do not become adults. Adulthood is just a number and a phase which is classified as a phenomenon of maturity hitting your senses.

Age alone cannot make you an adult. And becoming an adult is somewhat a difficult to understand abstract and concept. It is just assumed to be related to a number. Trying to adult is pretty much disorienting. At times you feel mature at times you do not. So, we would like to say that adulthood is a socially erected structure. And for that matter, even childhood is! Both of them have real consequences. These include the guidelines to who is responsible for their actions and who is not? What roles are people supposed to perform in the society and what they cannot? It also includes how people view each other along with how they should be viewing themselves. So, even where the definition needs to be pretty simple, adulthood challenges simplicity!

But, whatever is the case, each of us matures sexually after puberty. This is actually the phase when even our bodies start to mature. And someone's age is particularly assumed to be a good indicator for differentiating between adolescence and adulthood. The topic is pretty vast. And we can go on and on. For instance, the human skeleton too matures and the body also gets physically adult. However, 25 is said to be the perfect number when the brain develops fully and it makes you a full-fledged adult. It is the age when you are not a kid anymore. It is the age when you will be able to attain several privileges on the personal, professional as well as the legal front. You get ready to implement all the things you have learned in the past 20 years and use them on the professional front. You are capable enough to support your family. And in fact, you are even ready to have your own family.

We hope you will find the answer to what you have been looking for. Thank you for your query. We will be looking forward to more such interesting questions from your end.

Thanking You,

People often consider the age of 18 as the border where you step into adulthood. But is a little confusing if we look into the details of it. How can you put a definite age bar after which every youngster becomes an adult? Is there any particular parameter that defines adulthood and those who do not qualify it will still be considered kids. Well, that is not the case in the present sadly. If we observe we can cast a vote and select a leader for our country at the age of 18. We can even enrol our name to be a part of the military force of our country. But then most of the places do not serve alcohol to people below the age of 25. What is the government trying to convey with this to the citizens? You can go fight at the border or even select the correct person to be in power for the government but you cannot party with your friends. People above are considered to be capable of making decisions for the country but not capable enough to handle themselves in a drunk state. Well, it is all very contradictory if you ask me.
It is not that straightforward if we start noticing. Various brain regions and systems develop along separate timetables. There is no particular age at which the juvenile brain becomes an adult brain. Systems liable for logical thinking mature by the time people are 16, but those included in self-regulation are still emerging in young adulthood. This is why 16-year-olds are just as responsible as adults when it comes to allowing learned medical approval, but still naive in ways that reduce their criminal liability.
If we look at our society clearly has some messed up systems of deciding what should be allowed at which age. You can get a driving permission but not watch adult content at the same age. So we can say that science had nothing to do with making decisions when it comes to these matters. Kids are so inconstant in their maturity and the forms in which cultures interpret child growth are so different, it is useless to attempt to pin down the “right” age of maturity. So let us just say that every person is unique in their own way and we cannot put a brackets in the age bar at which it is safe to assume that all kids attain maturity.

Well, there is not a certain time which makes you adult. Though legally you become an adult at an age of eighteen, you become an adult in real terms when you become mature. Some people remain naïve and immature even in their forties. They do not attain maturity even after crossing a certain age. So, whenever you get an ability to make your own decisions, do things in your own right, you become an adult. If you can decide about your future in all seriousness and inspire and guide others as well, you get the license of being an adult. The law says you can only vote after you turn eighteen, then you are eligible to be called an adult. However, some people think they gain the status of being an adult at an age of 25. I personally believe it has got nothing to do with age. However, yes we become adult in our twenties as we are exposed to various things in this phase and we experience new things and get cognizant with life’s mysteries and nature in great detail. Some people term you adult due to your early development – this is absurd I tell you. We have different bodies and it is because of the hormones that we grow.

Turning into a adult is distinctive for everybody. For some youngsters, it implies living without anyone else or leaving to school. For others, it implies beginning your first genuine activity and ending up monetarily free. Regardless of what the conditions are, turning into a grown-up implies assuming liability for your life.

As such, turning into a grown-up implies turning into a self-advocate. This includes assuming liability for your own behavior and seeing how they influence whatever is left of the world. It additionally implies seeing how your environment influence you. In the event that you are a self-advocate, at that point you know how to settle on decisions in view of your inclinations, convictions, and capacities—decisions that enable you to prevail on the planet.

To wind up plainly a self-advocate, you require development and encounter--and certain information and abilities—yet there's a whole other world to it than that. You require a specific point of view also.

Being a adult you should mindful of Financial, monetary, business, and entrepreneurial proficiency that implies seeing how the economy influences your personal satisfaction, how to deal with your cash capably, how to act properly in proficient settings, and how your choices and activities influence your prosperity. Basically, it implies taking control and settling on the correct decisions for your future. At last, every secondary school graduate needs an inside and out comprehension of how his or her activities influence the world—and how the world influences his or her life.

You become an adult when you start dealing with your own shit.
