Salman Khan, a star considered as Superstar by many has been quite persistent in entertaining the audience for quite a long time. His films remarkably tagged as Blockbusters have entertained the huge mass of Indian people for quite a generation now. No doubt there are several other people in our Hindi film industry, also known as Bollywood, like ShahRukh Khan and Amir Khan to name. But Salman has been providing wholesome entertainment to the people of India through his mass oriented dramas for around six to seven years in a row.
Starting from the year 2009, his film "Wanted" made a significant impact at the box office earning a super hit status. Followed by it was "Veer", which was a failure at the box office but the world was yet to see the magnificent personality which was just building up. Several films were a failure at the box office, the consecutive years like "London Dreams", "Main Aur MRs Khanna", but 2010 saw a year which marked the beginning of an era of blockbusters to be followed thereafter. "Dabangg" was released in the Eid of 2010, which broke several box office records upon its release. The film was a major turning point in Khan’s career. Following the same persona of larger than life portrayal, Salman continued with hits like "Ek Tha Tiger", "Ready", "Bodyguard" and recent releases of "Jai Ho" along with last year's "Bajrangi Bhaijaan". Khan continued a long list of highest grossing films that continued to entertain the masses beginning from 2010. His last release was "Sultan" which also entertained people to the core and they enjoyed each and every part of the movie. Fan following in millions, Salman has a unique personality that makes the masses of India go crazy.
The fact that all his films have been blockbusters, proves he has the capacity to entertain people with his style and enigmatic charm. The audience, especially family oriented audience, follow his movies a lot. His movies, unlike other actors, have the right amount of songs, comedy and less nude or adult graphic scenes which make family oriented people more comfortable. Thus his audience ranges from kids to grownups to adults over fifty. Everyone is entertained by this huge personality.
The movies offered by Salman are mass oriented. He always tries to portray characters that are less realistic and more eye catching. Indian audience, after a day's long work, consider movies as an important link for stress busting. Movies like "Readdy", "Dabangg" were mass entertainers with scenes full of comedy and substantial drama for every age group. Although his films have less reality in them but people of India hardly fetch realistic characters. People in India are prone to Heroism and are entertained by the same. No doubt the recent graph of massive hits offered by Salman proves this fact. Even Salman’s past films like "Hum Apke Hain Kaun" and "Andaaz Apna Apna", are considered as biggest hits of the 1990s. Although "Andaaz Apna Apna" was a commercial failure but it was accepted as a cult hit because of the entertainment it provided through the comical role of both the actors, Amir and Salman.
Providing wholesome entertainment with songs and periodic scenes are the things that Salman’s film always offers. His presence on the small screen as the host of Television reality show "Big Boss", even attracted huge masses glued to the television screens. Till now he has hosted six of Big Boss seasons, the highest number for any of the stars to appear as the host of the same show consecutively. Starting from Big Boss 4 in 2010 to season 9 in 2015, Salman continued to entertain the mass audience of the small screen for 6 years. No doubt he is a star and an entertainer who is followed blindly by millions of people in India. Although critics have a different opinion about his films and they tag him as an overrated actor. As far as acting is concerned, Khan delivers the same type of personality in every film so far. His persona is larger than life and has elements of Heroism. He hardly portrays any negative characters, and so far has rejected several offers that had negative characters for him to portray. Nevertheless, people love him for his heroism and always book tickets of his movies in advance.
Salman Khan is no doubt the biggest and most popular entertainer of India as per the ongoing phase. Maybe he will be overthrown by some other individual at a later stage but going on by the recent graph it is difficult for any other person to achieve the trusts of people. Salman Khan continues to enthral the audiences with his larger than life roles and unique hosting in small screen. With every group of Indian audience dying to watch him on screen, he remains the most successful and popular entertainer in the country.
