Have you ever blamed yourself for not being tall enough?
Life can definitely cruel sometimes when it comes to beauty and aesthetics and height is surely one jackpot everybody wishes for. But not everyone is luck enough, especially with something nature has bestowed us upon. For instance, the racial discrimination by nature towards Asians, for not making them tall enough. This article throws some light on the factors that cause the difference in the height of various races.
The expression of height of an individual is dependent on the following factors:
• Genetic Expression.
• Diet.
• Environmental Factors
• Exposure to toxins.
Genetic Expression: The gene responsible for the growth of human body, has varied expression for different types of populations. In case of Asians, this gene has an average effect and does not express itself as a tall type whereas in races like Europeans, Africans, Americans, this gene expresses itself fully, thus, making them quite tall.
Diet: Diet also plays a pivotal role in the growth of human height. Asians are known to have a micro nutrient deficient diet which takes a toll on their height. Nutrients like calcium, vitamin D, iron, vitamin A and proteins, are extremely important for accelerated growth, but in the Asian diet there is a limited consumption of these nutrients. Also, most Asians are lactose intolerant, which cuts most of the vitamin D intake from the diet. Lactose intolerance further causes replacement of milk and its products by soy based products which contains isoflavone in abundance. The isoflavone is another culprit that decelerates the growth rate and makes the body vitamin D and calcium deficient.
Environmental Factors: Exposure to sun is a rich source of vitamin D. Since most Asians are brown skinned, they prefer to stay away from the sun, whereas the other races do not mind being tanned. This further prevents replenishment of vitamin D in the Asians, thus making them short.
Exposure to toxins: Most Asians prefer using skin whitening creams owing to their brown skin color. But these creams are composed of either hydroquinone or mercury, which gravely slow down the process of growth in adults as well as in the fetus.
Among the above factors, the primarily dominant factor remains the genetic expression which accounts for about eighty percent of variance in the height while the rest of the factors account for the remaining twenty percent. Thus, one can easily conclude that Asians have shorter height owing to the incomplete expression of growth related gene and also due to micro nutrient deficiency.
