Stephen Hawking is a great scientist who has made some amazing, world changing discoveries that made him famous. He is known as a legendary genius.

Let’s take a look at the discoveries that made Stephen Hawking so famous

1. Big Bang

The physicists who worked on Einstein’s gravitational theory observed some singularities or points where the space-time looked infinitely curved. However, it was not clear to the physicists whether the singularities were real. Later, Stephen Hawking along with Roger Penrose discovered that Einstein’s gravitational theory definitely predicted a singularity which was the Big Bang. This discovery happened in 1970.

2. Mechanics of Black Hole

Stephen Hawking discovered that black holes were hot which was in contradiction to the earlier law of physics that stated black holes are not able to radiate heat. Stephen Hawking worked on a theorem which stated that black holes are characterized by 3 numbers: their charge, their mass and their angular momentum. He discovered this during 1971-1972. Stephen Hawking also showed that black holes would eventually vanish by emitting heat.

3. Wave Function of the universe

In 1983, Stephen Hawking discovered “wave function of the universe” which can be used for calculating the properties of the universe.

4. New Galaxies

Stephen Hawking discovered how quantum fluctuations can give rise to galaxies in the universe. This discovery happened in 1982.

These are some of the discoveries for which Stephen Hawking is famous. He is also an author apart from being a legendary physicist and cosmologist.
