The Dargah Aala Hazrat Seminary in UP issued a fatwa stating that Hafiz Saeed, chief of Jamaat-ud-Dawa is not a Muslim and it asks the Muslim community in India not to follow his speeches and actions. According to this Fatwa, Saeed supports terrorism and makes use of terror in the name Islam to spread hatred among people and, he also brings the bad name to law abiding Muslims all around the world.
Mohammed Moinuddin, a resident of Jaipur asked the clerics at Bareilly seminary whether Saeed could be called an original Muslim since he supported people who had written statements against Prophet Mohammed. The fatwa came after this incident and Mufti Mohammed Salim Noori, the official spokesperson of the seminary explained that it was forbidden to keep any relationship with him and Saeed’ ideology was completely different from Islam.
India has a larger Muslim population than most Islamic countries in this world and even Pakistan is not an exception. Our country is hugely famous for its secularism and religious tolerance and, the Indian Constitution does not allow any favoritism based on caste, creed, color, class, sex or race. It can b said without an iota of doubt that the secular fabric of India has always been extremely strong and deep rooted as well.
In spite of having such a strong foundation of mutual trust and love, we are facing some serious issues in the name of terrorism. Why does India produce Islamic terrorists despite having a large Muslim population? It is a serious question that needs to answer and addressed immediately. Various Jihadist movements are creeping in slowly to destroy the secular fabric of our country and we cannot allow this trend to gain momentum because such a situation can make us pay a heave price in the future.
This fatwa is the strong message to other people who play with young minds to spread terrorism and hatred. Indian Muslim’s displeasure against religious fanatics have manifested many times before but this time, it has more relevance and the people of India must stand together irrespective of their caste, creed and color to protest against the words and deeds of people like Hafiz Saeed.
The bottom line is that this fatwa is a clear reflection of the sentiments of the majority of Indian Muslim population and they are all patriotic Indians who want to live in this country forever. There are aberrations and they are very few. These people should also be brought into the mainstream with the help of proper awareness programs. On the other hand; hard core terrorists should be dealt with the way deserve. The ever increasing presence of IS (Islamic State) raises some important questions and this Jihadist group has succeeded in misleading a good number young people. This problem should be addressed immediately and people like Hafiz Seed must not be allowed wandering around with their malicious and perverted philosophy. This fatwa is a good gesture and it is a big encouragement for the process of uprooting terrorism from the India soil.
