Facts about India's surgical strikes

The pre-emptive surgical strikes conducted by India across the Line of Control in State of Jammu and Kashmir on the intervening nights of September 29th and September 30th were a watershed in Indian Political history. It was for the first time that India took a bold step in its fight against cross-border terrorism being promoted by Pakistan.

These strikes were conducted between 12:30 am and 4:30 am and these terror camps were located from 500 meters to 3km deep in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. During this operation, the town of Bhimber, Hotspring Kel and Lipa Sector in Pakistan came under fire from Indian forces.

This surgical strike was largely seen as a revenge for killing of 18 soldiers of Indian Army on the morning of September 18 by terrorists in Uri region of Kashmir valley.

Initially, India built political pressure on Pakistan to isolate it globally and when Pakistan was convinced that India will not do any physical attack commandoes from Indian Special Forces (4 Para and 9Para) crossed over the Line of Control and killed over 35-40 terrorists who were waiting to sneak into India at the first opportunity available to them. Noticeably, there was no loss of life on the Indian side and all the commandoes came back successfully after the surgical strike.

This surgical strike was a strong message to Pakistan establishment that India will not take things for granted and any such misadventure will be dealt with strictly in future.
