What is 'surgical' about Indian Army's operation on 29 September 2016?

India struck a decisive blow to Pakistan sponsored terrorism when it conducted surgical strikes on terror launch pads across the Line of Control in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. Three to four teams of 70 to 80 soldiers from Indian Special Forces (4 and 9 Para) crossed over to Pakistan Occupied Kashmir in Nowgam sector and Poonch district area.

The teams traveled 1-3 km on foot and destroyed terrorist base with rocket launchers and hand grenades. The operation was kept a closely guarded secret, and it was only when it completed successfully did the world came to know about the same. The success of this operation can be gauged from the fact that none of the Indian Soldier was killed in operation and only two of the soldiers got injured.

An estimated number of 35-40 terrorists and some Pakistan Army regulars were killed in the surgical strike. This operation served as a reminder to Pakistan that India can no longer be taken for granted and every effort made to destabilize India will be met with stiff resistance.

Post this operation too; India has been sending a strong signal to Pakistan that any future misadventure of this kind will be dealt with strictly.

Pakistan on its part denied any such surgical strike since acceptance of the same would have caused grave embarrassment for its civil and military establishment.
