Home remedies for High Triglycerides

Extra calories consumed are converted into triglycerides in the body.

An increase in triglycerides may be due to metabolic syndrome, cigarette smoking, a high calorie diet and excessive alcohol consumption. It is also a symptom of metabolic syndrome.

Metabolic syndrome is a combination of diseases like high blood sugar, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. Normal triglyceride levels should be less than 150 ml/dl. If you are having high triglyceride levels, you should follow a healthy diet and make some changes in your lifestyle.

High levels of triglycerides can be lowered by simple home remedies. Here are some home remedies to lower your triglyceride levels.

# Garlic helps lower triglyceride and cholesterol levels.

# Mix one teaspoon of Apple cider vinegar in one cup of water and drink daily. This helps you lower triglycerides as well as cholesterol.

# Spices like coriander, cinnamon and cayenne pepper lowers your triglyceride levels.

# Fiber increases absorption of nutrients from the food. It slows down the absorption of fat and sugars. This helps in weight loss. Eat fibre rich food like oats, bananas, peas and green vegetables.

# Include food rich in Omega 3 fatty acids like flax seeds, legumes and walnuts. You can also take a supplement.

# Exercise regularly. Inactivity may increase your triglyceride levels.

# Limit fructose rich foods like dates and raisins.

# Reduce sugar and carbohydrate intake.

# Quit smoking and reduce alcohol intake.
