How to Play PS3 Games on PS4?

The best console in the market right now is the PlayStation 4, and if you are a gamer, there is no way you wouldn’t have got your hands on the latest gaming console. Though at the same time anyone who loves games would have a whole library of them and would also be wondering if they can play their old games on the new console via backward compatibility.

So, if you are one of those gamers that have got the new gaming console PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 4 Pro and are looking for ways to play your old collection on it, here is some useful information for you.

Backwards Compatibility

Many of you would be wondering as to why PlayStation does not offer backward compatibility when Microsoft offers it with its gaming console. Xbox One has backward compatibility for over 300 Xbox 360 titles. This makes it a better option for gamers as compared to Sony’s PlayStation. Though, according to Sony’s head of PlayStation Europe Jim Ryan, this important functionality would not be included in their consoles anytime soon as it is requested often but seldom used.

Can You Play PS3 Games On PS4?

The answer to this simple question is a heartbreaking no. You cannot play PlayStation3 games on PlayStation 4 by putting the disc in the console. Quite similar to how it was with the first generation PS3 with PS3 titles, the discs of PS3 cannot be used on the current console. Though, you can avail the services of Sony’s own 'PlayStation Now' service to stream older titles.

What Is PlayStation Now?

In the simplest of terms, one can describe 'PlayStation Now' as the Netflix of gaming. As long as you have a secure Wi-Fi connection you can play any title that is in the 'PlayStation Now' library which includes playing PlayStation 3 games on PlayStation 4. One great perk about using 'PlayStation Now' is that you don’t have to waste unnecessary time in waiting for the PlayStation3 titles to update or install. Since all the 'PlayStation Now' titles are stored in the online cloud, you don’t have to bother with all the redundant activities. All you need to do is to download the 'PlayStation Now' app from the 'PlayStation Network Store' and have a high internet to make use of it.

As far as the prices are concerned, there are two ways in which you can pay for 'PlayStation Now.' The first method is a monthly fee that of £12.99 per month which is not inclusive of 'PS Plus' subscription and the other is renting games for a one-off fee.
