How to prevent head lice in natural ways?

Too much scalp itch, such that taking hands off the head becomes a challenge.

Then it is the most prominent and common sign of head lice. Head lice a menace, everybody wishes to stay away from, but there are some unfortunate individuals that suffer from this much dreaded condition, especially children. Thus, a treatment to get rid from lice becomes a necessity, but the danger of exposure to harmful chemicals is quite high. So, you can definitely try some of the below natural methods, to prevent the same.

Maintaining appropriate distance: Lice infestation happens when an infected individual shares closeness with a non-infected individual like hugging, touching of heads, using the same combs, etc. Thus, maintaining and optimal personal space is quite important, to prevent lice infestation.

Tying of hair: In most cases, individuals do not realize that the safe distance is hampered. So, the best way to prevent infestation, is to tie the hair. This cuts the percentage of infestation to about half.

Wet hair combing: Combing of wet lice infested hair is an age old practice. It uses specially designed combs which have a specialty in catching lice as well as the nits. The wet hair provide extra lubrication to let the lice slide out easily form the scalp.

Essential Oils: Essential oils like ginger, lavender, jasmine, tea tree oil, ylang ylang and neroli, have innate properties that help in soothing the itch as well as kill the lice. One thing that should be kept in mind is to apply the oil as advised and as per prescribed dosage, or else it may have harmful effects on the scalp.

Smothering of Lice: Overnight application of a thick coat of smothering agents like olive oil, mayonnaise, petroleum jelly or butter to the scalp, helps in cutting the oxygen content and finally kill the lice. The coat can then further be removed using baby oil, followed by shampoo.

Water Vinegar solution: The water vinegar solution, has a high success score in killing the lice, by dissolving the bodies of lice and nits. The solution needs to contain water and vinegar in the ratio of 1:1. After sometime, it can be removed by shampooing.

All above measures help greatly in reduction of lice, but what should be kept in mind is, all the remedies require time. Hence, the remedies should be followed for at least a week to three weeks regularly.
