This is what makes him a role model for many; he made a choice to use his work to benefit the humanity in such a way that this invention would be available to the rest of the world. Since he does not have the copyright for this treatment, he will not have any financial benefits from this venture. He chose to make sure these children will be able to retain their eye instead of gaining some financial benefits from the treatment.
This is what makes him special and worth taking inspiration from. His sole motive was to make sure this treatment would benefit the children and give them a cure for cancer and the pain that they experienced because of it, without having to experience the pain of losing the eye.
