Trying to not think about a particular song, we end up thinking about it more. Psychologists suggest that if you happen to have a case of an earworm, play the song through and it might just escape your head. Another way to stop thinking about that one song is to start thinking about another song, the one you can bear, but it’s a vicious cycle.

Everyone knows that music can affect the mood, but researchers have also found that listening to a particular kind of music, happy or sad, can even alter the way you perceive the world. For instance, if you listen to happy music, you are more likely to recognize happy faces, and same goes for the sad music.

Scientists believe that the reason that we like some songs more than others is because we have an emotional event of our life associated with the music. When an MRI was conducted on subjects listening to music, it was observed in a study that music recruited auditory areas and activated a large network or neurons in the brain. Moreover, scientists also concluded that music activated the motor, emotional as well as those areas of the brain that spark creativity.

Listening to music in the gym diverts the mind from feeling fatigued and generates positive moods. Playing music during low to moderate workouts makes the session a pleasurable experience. Music triggers the release of dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine; feel-good neurotransmitters that keep us relaxed and happy.

They say music sees no boundaries. Scientists have explained how it doesn't see any breed. South Korean scientists carried out a study which concluded that plants grew more quickly when they were playing music, especially classical music, than compared to plants not played anything. Another research indicated that playing music to cows relaxed them and as a result, the cows produced more milk than before.
