Justin Bieber's Style Evolution Over The Years

We’ve seen Justin Beiber grow in front of our eyes. We were all introduced to his iconic swoop back hair in 2009 and ever since, the pop star has undergone a drastic evolution in terms of his fashion sense.

Justin Beiber’s hairstyle has also evolved dramatically along with his shoes and so has his relationship with his audience.

We try and bring you a detailed list that captures Justin Beiber’s style evolution over the eight years that we’ve known him; starting right from 2009 to 2017. Take a look.

Young Blood

Justin Bieber showed up with his mentor, Usher, to the Kid's Choice Awards in 2009. The blooming star wore his hair in an extra-long mop top and layered up with a gray thermal. He wore washed out jeans and revealed his early love for bold sneakers with a pair of gold and red kicks.

The Thug

Justin has been a G fan since his early days. The young star throws a peace sign in a backward hat with a large white digital watch accessorizing his wrist. What do you think of JB in purple? We hope you love it because you're about to learn the Biebs is a huge fan of this hue.

Classic Beiber

Justin hit up the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards in a lightweight gray zip-up track jacket and a crisp red tee. His hair was side-swept in his signature hairdo and he wore a cross and dog tag pendant around his neck. Classic Bieber!

Street Chic

Bieber attended the lighting of the Empire State Building in New York City wearing a combination of street and preppy style. His bright white tee and khaki jeans were worn with gray Supra Skytop high-top sneakers and a maroon scarf.

The Cast

Did you think a cast would throw off Justin Bieber's style? If so, you are sorely mistaken. The young pop star pulled off denim on denim with stark gray high-top sneakers and a flat rimmed NY Yankees cap for the 2009 Jingle Ball in Madison Square.

The Moustache

You know you've got it when you can pull off a pencil mustache at the age of sixteen. Justin was out for dinner in London when he decided to get cheeky with a drawn-on mustache for the paparazzi. He wore a charcoal coat with a salt and pepper knit scarf and dark jeans.

All Dressed Up

For the 2010 Grammy Awards, Justin dressed up his casual black sneakers with a pair of shiny pants, a sleek vest, and skinny tie. He didn't leave home without one of his digital watches, and kept his hair in JB style, as per usual.

The Geek

Bieber's love of bold high-tops is taken up a notch in a pair of bright yellow sneaks at a performance in LA. The teenager starts to get playful with his wardrobe by wearing all black with a bright pop of color. He tossed on a pair of large black framed glasses for a geek meets street look.

Well Suited

Justin Bieber knows when to dust off his black suit and patent leather wingtips—a White House Correspondent's dinner is one of those occasions. The pop prince looked classic with a bow tie but didn't lose his wind-blown hairdo.

Purple Love

This is when JB takes his love of purple to a whole new level. The singer gives a high energy performance in New Jersey wearing a white denim jacket and matching jeans over a purple hoodie. The Three-Piece

The 2011 Golden Globes brought out the formal side of Bieber's fashion. J looked dapper in his Dolce & Gabbana classic three-piece suit. He didn't let us forget his signature style, however, by opting for Lanvin patent low top lace-ups instead of the expected dress shoes.

The Piercings

In early 2012, it was a whole new Biebs. We saw yet another Justin Beiber hairstyle evolution along with JB’s pierced ears. The Biebs started wearing solid studs.

Good Bye Good Boy

Justin completely changed his iconic swoop hairstyle forever. He eventually shaved the sides and ditched the swoop. Not to say he looked as appealing as ever in his new hairstyle.

The New Beginnings

After he went for a new haircut, the year 2013 added yet another evolution in the style of Beiber. However, this time, not much for his clothes or shoes but rather for his tattoo. He started working on his new sleeve tattoo.

Red Love

As Justin’s fashion sense kept evolving over the years, so did his affinity towards colors. Who was once a die-hard purple fan had now shifted his priorities towards the red color. Not to forget sunglasses, that had made a new entry in the wardrobe of the pop sensation.

A Changed Beiber

The year 2014 was not a particularly good one for the Biebs. He had to deal with the police following a Driving under the influence (DUI) charge and also for throwing eggs at a neighbor. He was off the radar for a while but made a return with a new neck tattoo that said ‘patience’.

The Revelations

In September 2014, the Canadian took his fashion sense to an entirely new level. This time, however, he chose not to wear anything. Yes! While presenting at Fashion Rocks, the Biebs stripped down completely to reveal his new tattoos.

The Gentleman

In 2015, Beiber was invited to get roasted at Comedy Central’s Roast. However, he couldn’t have got roasted for his attire.

Classic Cut

But following the roast, he went back to his classic cut of shaven sides for the Met Gala in May. Also, don’t forget to take a look at the classy black and gold jacket.

The Big Change

But then, everything changed. Bieber dropped his acclaimed album "Purpose" in the fall of 2015. His hairstyle dramatically changed.

But by May 2016, Bieber had shaved his head and pierced his nose.

A Swoop Return?

He kept the shaved look for a while but started growing it out towards the end of 2016. For a spell, it looked like he was returning to the iconic swooped look.

Blonde Again

But in February 2017, the Biebs shaved his head again and went back to platinum blonde. Only time will tell which direction he goes in next.
