10 Best Indian Movies We Wish Chinese President Could See

Cinema knows no barrier, whether its language or International borders. The recent praise of Dangal by Chinese President Xi Jinping got us really excited. The movie broke all records and made a place for itself among the list of All-Time 20 Biggest Box Office Hits in China. The President even discussed the success of the movie with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and told him how much he liked it. Well, that was it, we decided to sit down and after careful selection, penned a list of Indian movies that the honorable President must watch.

Sir, this list is specifically made to give you a taste of the marvelous, exquisite and inspirational Indian movies that are churned out every year by the vast pool of talent that is the Indian Film Industry.

1. Baahubali 2: The Conclusion: India is a land of epic galore and we find inspiration in our larger than life mythological books and characters. This movie brings to life one such fictional character who is an unlikely yet a brave hero who fights to protect his people and his kingdom. Your country China is not oblivious to such mythology and tales, as it has quite a few of its own such as Fengshen Bang. The breathtaking imagery and cinematography of Baahubali 2: The Conclusion will momentarily transport you into a different world altogether.

2. Chak De! India: Mr. President, since the awe-inspiring story of Dangal was well appreciated by you and the general public of China, then Chak De! India will definitely find a place in your list of the top favorite Indian movies. This inspirational tale of how one man strove hard to help Indian Women’s Hockey Team rise out of oblivion and become the world champions, amid religious bigotry and sexism, is phenomenal.

3. Bhag Mikha Bhag: Sir, we know you are not impervious to the fact it takes intense grueling to make a champion. China has a long list of great athletes both former and new such as Gao Min, Yao Ming and Li Ning. Bhag Mikha Bhag is a story of one such Indian athlete and this motivational tale tells the story of a national champion runner and Olympic medalist who defeated all odds to claim the title of "The Flying Sikh" by former President of Pakistan General Ayub Khan.

4. Sachin: A billion dreams: Sachin Tendulkar is one of the greatest living legends of India and the man himself is just as inspiring as his life story. This superstar has helped India gain countless victories on the cricket pitch and has a never ending legion of fans in various countries. We humbly request you to see Sachin: A billion dreams to get to know Sachin or as we fondly call him The Little Master, better.

5. Swades: No one understands the importance of selfless love for one’s own country as you do. The important and powerful post that you hold helps you in making and implementing changes for the betterment of your country. Swades is the story of a common man who returns to his country to renew old ties with his people and his land and in the process, he does his best to change the social and economic condition of his small village.

6. Guru: This movie is based on the real-life story of Dhirubhai Ambani, a man who rose from rags to riches to establish a business empire that is now run by his billionaire sons. China has his own influential names that are part of the global billionaire club such as Wang Jianlin. This movie is not just inspiring but also shows the strength and perseverance of a man and what it takes to be an unstoppable force to make it to the top.

7. Black: Black made it to the Time Magazine's list of 10 Best Movies of the Year 2005 from around the globe and rightly so. The movie will connect to you emotionally and make you realize that there is no such thing in life as a handicap unless you choose to see it as one. It also showcases the unique bond that cements a student and teacher relationship. The story of a deaf, dumb and blind girl trapped in a void like existence and her teacher who never gives up in his struggle to make her a part of the world and help her achieve her dreams. Later when the teacher develops Alzheimer's disease, the student returns back to guide her teacher just as he did long back.

8. Paa: I don’t know if you have heard about Amitabh Bachchan, a living legend, but the brilliant actor portrays the role of a lifetime in a film that was groundbreaking for its concept and story. A 66-year-old Amitabh played a young boy who suffers from Progeria, a rare disorder and his father was played by Mr. Bachchan’s son Abhishek Bachchan. The movie focuses on the father-son relationship and is quite heart touching.

9. Jodha Akbar: If you wish to see Indian cinema in its grandiose, then this is the movie for you. The set designs for this epic love saga between a Mughal Emperor and a Rajput princess had drawn the attention of Ralph Fiennes, a well-known Hollywood star. The tale unfolds in a beautiful way and does its best to create a yesteryear atmosphere that prevailed when India was the land of Emperors and Maharajas.

10. Lagaan: Given the background and struggles that you went through to be able to take this prestigious post as the President, no one would understand the importance of determination better. You had a close brush with the village community in your growing up years and this movie that even made it to the Academy Awards shows the strength and willpower of a group of young villagers who locked horns with the British Raj. Lagaan beautifully showcases the hardships the poor folks of a humble village undergo and how they fight back and defeat a much stronger opponent, all in a cricket match.
