Now, link Aadhaar with PAN in minutes.

To link Aadhaar with PAN, the Income Tax Department has initiated a new facility to complete this process quickly. Under the Finance Act 2017, the government has made it compulsory for tax payers to state their Aadhaar card or the enrolment ID of Aadhaar application form for filing their income tax returns. This way it will be useful in the process of E-verification of Income Tax returns using the One Time Password (OTP) sent to their mobile registered with Aadhaar.

Here is the process to link Aadhaar with PAN in 10 easy steps:

1) To connect Aadhaar with PAN of a taxpayer, the income tax department’s e-filing website has a new link introduced on its homepage.

2) There is no requirement of logging in or registering in on e-filing website of the income tax department. Now, this facility of linking Aadhaar with PAN can be used by anyone.

3) The link requires an individual to log in his/her PAN number, Aadhaar number and the “actual” name as mentioned on his/her Aadhaar card.

4) Once the verification from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the linking will be confirmed. In case there is any minor mismatch in Aadhaar name provided by the individual, Aadhaar One Time Password (OTP) will be needed.

5) The One Time Password will be sent on the individual’s registered mobile number which he/she might have provided in the Aadhaar database.

6) The income tax department has asked taxpayers to be sure of the details like date of birth and gender that they provide in PAN and Aadhaar card should be same, so that the linking can be done successfully.

7) In any strange case, if the name mentioned on the Aadhaar card is different from that on the PAN card, the attempt to link the two will fail and the taxpayer will be propelled to change the name in either of the two databases.

8) After receiving complaints from the taxpayers who were not able to link their PAN and Aadhaar because they had stated initials of their name in one and full name in the other, the tax department introduced the new simplified system.

9) The tax department also stated that the facility to link Pan to Aadhaar is also accessible after logging into e-filing website under the Profile.

10) A report by news agency revealed that till now more than 1.18 crore PAN database has been linked with Aadhaar numbers.
