10 Famous Personalities Who Lost Their Privileged Awards

Awards and accolades like Nobel Prize, Academy Awards and Oscars have bestowed specialness upon who receives them! It is amongst their once-in-a-lifetime achievements. Owning those trophies are such a rarity unless you are Walt Disney and win around 22 Oscars. But all of it can vanish for the some or the other reasons and the specialness disappears.

Here are 10 famous people who lost their awards due to carelessness, robbery or for reasons they don't even remember! 

#1. Angelina Jolie  

Upon receiving an Oscar for the Best Supporting Actress role for the film Interrupted, Angelina presented the trophy to her mother which later may have been boxed up to put up in a storage. But when her mother died in 2007 the Oscar too vanished and hasn’t been surfaced yet.

#2. Kailash Satyarthi

In the year 2014, Kailash Satyarthi's prestigious Nobel Prize emblem (which he shared with Malala Yousafzai) was stolen from his own residence along with several other valuable belongings.

#3. Colin Firth

This tremendous actor nearly left his brand new eight-pound Oscar trophy on a toilet tank the night he received it! He was tracked down by one of the bathroom attendants bringing into notice about what happened. The incident gave a good laugh to everyone who got to know about it!

#4. Margaret O'Brien

On being presented with an Academy Award for Outstanding Child Actress of the year it was a usual incident for her maid to take off the trophy for polishing. It was only about 10 years later that her domestic help took away the award to get it polished like always. But this time, she just didn't come back! Margaret almost forgot about the incident due to certain personal issues but upon recalling she tried contacting her maid and found her number to be disconnected. Though she received a replacement. But a couple of men happened to find the same at a flea market (40 years after the award went missing) and put it for an auction which is how Margaret got back her original Academy Award.

#5. Olympia Dukakis

When Olympia's Moonstruck Oscar got stolen from her residence in the year 1989, she paid a fair price of around $78 to get back a replacement. This award was the only thing that got robbed from her place.

#6. Matt Damon

The newbie writer Matt Damon took home an Academy Award for writing Good Will Hunting in the year 1998. It was his astonishing moment though now it's a memory of the past where his award went missing. The trophy did end up to his apartment in New York. But unfortunately, during the times of floods, it was the last time he and his wife saw the award.

#7.  Whoopi Goldberg

Her Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Ghost went back to the academy for detailing and cleaning but got very neatly stolen from the shipping container in the year 1990. The box arrived empty to the manufacturers of these trophies. But after disappearing, the award was later found in a trash bin at an airport of California. And the academy gave her back the award without any cleaning or polishing. No further risks were taken!

#8. Alice Brady

Alice was unable to attend the award ceremony for some personal reasons (being severely ill). Due to which, after being announced as the winner, a man walked up to the stage and got the award on behalf of her. She won the Best Supporting Actress role award for the film In Old Chicago. But after recovering, she contacted the academy to find that none of them actually knew about where the trophy was!

There were absolutely no traces of the statuette.  Reportedly, the replacement issue was forwarded but Alice passed away even before she could get one. Though later on, the stage man was recognized as the director of her film.

#9. Aaron Rochin

He won the Oscar award for providing the Best Sound in the Deer Hunter film. In the year 1979 after winning, the award went missing from the repair facility and later turned up on the e-commerce website, eBay. But a man was later accused of selling off the award for about $25,000. Aaron's identification number had been inscribed on the trophy.

#10. Hattie McDaniel

Hattie's Best-Supporting Actress award for the film Gone with the Wind made her donate the same to the Howard University! It was displayed in the fine arts department complex for some time. But went missing thereafter. It appeared that no one had the idea how this happened. Yet rumors had spread that it might have been dumped by the University students only. They were outraged with the radical stereotypes and may have taken a revenge that way!
