7 Reasons You Should Become More Generous With Your Hugs

A hug is a three letter word that is filled with love and the power to change your day completely.

There is a reason why it’s often called Jaddu Ki Jhappi as it is filled with a lot of magic. It casts a spell of love on anyone it is given to and automatically acts as an inducer of happiness and upliftment.

A hug a day can keep many of your problems away, and this is precisely why you should hug more often. There is a whole range of reasons that validate our stance on hugs:

#1. Feel-good factor

Hugging someone gives a warm and fuzzy feeling deep inside. It is not just a physical contact limited to two arms embracing you but extends deep inside emotionally. When we hug someone, our body releases oxytocin which is also known as cuddle hormone. This hormone helps in the release of positive emotions such as devotion, trust and a deep sense of bonding.

#2. Stress-Buster

Stress awaits us at every corner of our lives, and there is simply no way to avoid it. There is, however, a way to lessen it and it is as simple as hugging someone. A hug can lower the level of cortisol in the body and act as an anti-anxiety drug minus any side effects. Perhaps the easiest and safest way to keep all unnecessary worries at bay is just a simple little hug.

#3. Glue That Binds Us

When someone hugs you, you feel special and connect deeply with that person. That’s because a hug can help us bond deeper and we only show this sign of affection to those who matter. Psychologically it cultivates trust and a deep sense of love between two people.

#4. Lowers Blood Pressure

The medical benefits of a hug are many including countering high BP. A good hug requires an ample amount of physical contact, and that activates pressure receptors called Pacinian corpuscles. The receptors send signals to the vagus nerve which is an area of the brain that reduces blood pressure. This just shows that a gentle and affectionate hug can help a person calm down and bring down their level of blood pressure.

#5. Relieves You Of Unnecessary Fears

The power of interpersonal touch must never be under-estimated. Studies have revealed that interpersonal contact such as a hug can help people deal with a lot of existential fears. People with low self-esteem are often plagued with constant worries of their existential existence and just a hug from a loved one is often enough to quell their concerns and make them feel significant.

#6. Keeps your Heart Healthy

Hugging can be good for the heart and not just because of the warm fluttery feelings it produces but also because it can regulate your heart rate. A study done by the University of North Carolina revealed that participants who didn’t have any contact with their partners had a quickened heart rate as compared to the standard heart rate of those who got to hug their partners.

#7. Good Vibes

We are bombarded with chaos from every angle in our lives; be it work, daily commuting, unending interactions or even a walk down the street. To live consciously in today’s time is hard but also necessary for peace of mind. A good hug can help you achieve a harmonious mind and make you work towards reconnecting with the body positively.
