These lawyers defend people who are facing serious criminal charges in their name. The criminal lawyer will ideally investigate the case and research crime codes and all the procedural laws. They are also required to build a case strategy.

They are also expected to file and argue motions to suppress and dismiss the case in their favor.

Skills required

A criminal lawyer is expected to have good oral and written advocacy skill set. Additionally, they should be efficient in investigative and research skills also. Thinking and analytical skills are also required as they are required to litigate on tough cases.

An in-depth understanding of federal and local rules is also needed if a person wants to become a criminal lawyer.

Work conditions

Most of the criminal lawyers do private practice though firms, big corporate companies, nonprofit agencies, and government also hire competent criminal lawyers. Money is not a constraint in this profession and if the criminal lawyer is capable of proving their worth, they even earn pay package over 1 Lakh per month.
