Slavery Still Exists: Human Trafficking, Causes And Eradication

“People were created to be loved. Things were created to be used. The reason why the world is in chaos is that things are being loved and people are being used.”

We have constantly been hearing for quite a long time about how men, women, and kids fall into the trap of luring (fake) promises and gradually move into a nasty trench. There aren’t just a few but millions of cases (both reported and unreported) where humans are deprived of their basic living rights, their dignity is robbed off and a majority of them go through sexual ordeals and forced labor.

We as a society can change the situation of human trafficking, but first, we need to understand every detail of this hideous ground.

What Is Human Trafficking?

If we go about a legal explanation to define trafficking in persons, then the unlawful practice of staffing, hauling, relocating, and receiving persons using oppression or threat for the sole purpose of exploitation without the consent can be defined as human trafficking. And by definition we understand that there are three major aspects to the whole act:

What Is Being Done?

Trade, transport, and transfer along with harboring and receiving persons are some options that suggest what's being done.

How Is It Done?

Using threatening, abduction, deception, fraudulent, misuse of power and force in an exchange with certain monetary benefits.

Why Is It Done?

For the sake of indulging in coerced sexual acts, prostitution, forced labor, and illegal organ removal is the primary concerns. All of these turn out to be a part of the modern day slavery system.

But What Are The Prevailing Causes Of Human Trafficking?

#1. The search for a better life is one major cause. When one isn’t satisfied with his/ her current position there arises the scope of trapping them into this vulnerable trade.

#2. Natural disasters, political instability, war, destruction, poverty are other causes that lead to an increase in people being trafficked. Such people are easy targets.

#3. Human life devaluation makes women and children more susceptible to fulfill the demands about sexual and labor servitude.

#4. Of course one of the major causes includes generation of a massive profit through the year. According to human trafficking statistics by the International Labour Organization, around $150 billion is the annual gathering. No wonder why it’s now the fastest growing industry in the world!

#5. Identification of such cases goes unreported, well-hidden and highly traumatized. Law enforcement is infrequent when it concerns to this sector.

Is There A Way To Fight Human Trafficking?

#1. Collect information about the indicators to be able to identify a potential victim.

#2. Report about the incident where you come to know human trafficking is involved.

#3. Be an informed citizen who is conscious and aware of the surroundings.

#4. Do not hesitate on meeting such people. Let them know you care and support in whatever way you can.

#5. Provide legal and humane employment to the trafficking survivors.

#6. Help shape positive perceptions through public portals. Media plays an immense role in guiding through.

#7. Gain and spread information and let others know the importance of life.

This World’s Day against Trafficking in Persons, pledge to eradicate the issue not only from the grass root levels but also from everyone’s mind.
