How To Improve A Child's Concentration?

Parenting is one of the most difficult tasks in the world. Every parent wishes to provide the best for their children. But what if your kid struggles to concentrate?

Have a look at the list below to help your kid concentrate better.

#1. Playing Can Help Build Concentration.

It is always a good idea to try and plan your kid’s activities in a fun way. Playing with their regular toys that do not involve phones or any other gadgets will help them concentrate.

Thinking games: Games that require thinking, planning, observing and memory are the best ones. Crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, Jenga, Scrabble or even chess, helps in improving their concentration and brings their attention to new words and techniques.

Sequencing: Being able to follow instructions in a specified order for, e.g., A cooking recipe or steps to set up the table will help the kids to pay attention to every word in the prescribed order.

#2. The Atmosphere Plays An Important Role

A calm and soothing environment may help some kids concentrate better whereas others may find it best suited for sleeping. Whereas some children prefer silence, others prefer a busy surrounding, hearing people talking in the background, to feel alive and active.

Ambiance: Painting the kids' room with soothing colors helps them stay calm. A pet dog or maybe a fish tank in your child’s room will help him channelize his energies in the right direction.

Arrange his stuff: Arrange your kid’s room in a manner that he has access to everything he needs while studying. Keep everything that is required at hand so that your child does not need to get up to get anything. All his homework books, crayons, textbooks, pencils should be stacked up near his study table. To reduce wastage of time, you can also keep a water bottle nearby.

#3. Eating Healthy Food Is Directly Linked To A Child’s Concentration

Consuming junk food or sugar rich food makes the child lethargic and they feel sleepy. Food rich in proteins such as lean meat, cottage cheese, and milk helps them stay active and increase their concentration levels also.

Caffeine: High intake of coffee or caffeinated energy drinks adds to their sugar levels leading to lower energy levels.

#4. Schedule Your Child’s Day

Routines help children get accustomed with their daily activities. Planning a schedule for the time when he wakes up to the time he goes to bed, helps your kid manage time. It helps him prepare his mind when it's study time. This helps reduce any wastage, and your little one is attentive towards his homework.

#5. A Good Sleep Helps in Better Concentration

Most children can concentrate better after a good night's rest. A power nap for twenty minutes or more after school also helps their mind to relax and work efficiently later. A tired mind would keep fidgeting, hence relaxing it is very important to keep focus all day.

#6. Dividing Bigger Tasks Into Smaller Ones Makes Them Look Easy

As a parent, one needs to be always playing tricks to make the kids do things the right way. Getting their homework done is one of them. It is natural for kids to crib and show tantrums when asked to write or read long chapters. Play it smart, divide the sections into small portions and get it done by them. Smaller tasks do not pressurize kids, and they happily finish them without losing out on the concentration.

#7. Different Kids, Different Ways

Every kid has a brain that functions differently. Some process information quickly when they see it, some when they hear it and some when they can touch or feel it. It is important to understand your child’s requirement and work accordingly.

Visual Aids: Kids who learn better with visual aids can be helped with flash cards, drawings or even some doodling.

Sounds: For children who prefer the sound, reading aloud or giving them audio books to read might help.
