Hell no! I would never hitch hike ever! You know the wolf creek movies about all those hitchhikers who got brutally murdered? That movie was based on real life events that actually happened...all totally innocent hitchhikers murdered in horrible ways.
I just think that the risks do not out way the rewards, sure you might catch a ride with 4 really super nice people but the 5th person you catch a ride with may be the person who stabs you to death. In this day and age particularly for a woman it's just to dangerous. I would 100% recommend you DON'T do it....but ultimately it's your decision
I have never went hitch hiking but I have picked numerous hitch hikers up. When I tell people they always go down the 'omg but you don't know who is getting in your car!' route. True, but I don't know who is walking behind me in the park, who is on the train with me, who is in the car park at night.
Bad things can happen anywhere to anyone at anytime so I try not to let it change what I do. As others said just always precautions, if people know roughly where I am and when I should be back then at least if anything happens I know someone will be looking for me haha.
