Why should you Trust your Intuitions?

How many times have you felt that you should not do what you were going to do? Have you ever stopped from going somewhere because you had a feeling that something is not right? What is this feeling? The feeling is the prior knowledge of an event without a conscious reasoning. It is like an instinct, like a gut feeling about something which can either be good or bad. Some people believe that intuitions tell us about the future while some argue that these are mere apprehensions. We cannot really tell what they are or if we should believe in intuitions. It is a personal choice. People have their own belief systems and different cultures have different explanations for them.

Have you ever trusted your intuitions? Sometimes trusting your intuitions can prove to be the right decision. A lot of people have shared their experiences of trusting their “sixth sense” which proved to be the right decision for them. A lady once reported that she had to go to out with her husband for the long weekend to some distant island. They had booked their tickets and were ready to leave. The lady said that she was feeling nauseous and she felt like something signed her not to go. It was her sixth sense or her intuitions that told her to stay but she did not herself believe in these signs. The next morning when she woke up she was feeling sick and therefore they canceled their plan. One of the lady’s friends suggested that he could go in their place with his wife and they all agreed. The next morning news arrived that the boat which was ferrying to the island drowned in the sea, the same boat which was carrying that couple. The lady lost her friend, and she realized that she was lucky. Had she not fallen sick, she could have died. From the moment onwards she started believing in her intuitions and most of the times they have helped her come out from troubling times.

We all may not have experienced such incidents to start believing our intuitions so what should we do then? How do I know if my intuitions are right or wrong? Should I trust my gut feelings? It becomes important for people like us who have not experienced any such events supporting intuitions, to know why we should trust our intuitions.

#1. Threats

Intuitions help you to recognize the possible threats you may face. When you feel like there is something wrong or something wrong is going to happen there are possibilities that it may become true. There is no harm in protecting yourself before something terrible befalls on your head. It is often said prevention is better than cure. So, if you feel that something wrong can happen, then you must take precaution. Even if nothing happens, you will be assured that you could save yourself. If something happens, you will be prepared for it already, and you will be able to protect yourself.

#2. Right vs. Wrong

We all meet new people every day, and we never know who that person could be. We do not know how a person is from inside. One can never know what the other person might be hiding behind the face of innocence, but somehow our intuitions tell us about what could be right or what could be wrong. Whenever you meet a person, then your intuitions often tell you whether you should stick to the person or not. No matter how much you like a person but sometimes you feel that something is wrong or missing. You should always listen to your feeling because that person may really be wrong for you. Today, we cannot know the real face of a person even after living for years with them. Sometimes you get to see the real person after you have committed to them and then it becomes very hard to get out of that relationship. This happens when you miss the intuitions, and you follow what you think is right.

#3. Illness

The human body is designed in a way that it gives you signs when there is something wrong in any part of the body or if an organ’s functions are not working properly. You may also get intuitions about your body being ill, but you do not catch them and often end up getting sick. If the intuitions are accompanied by some bodily symptoms like shivering and nausea, then you should get a health checkup done. If you miss the signs for long, then you may even develop a chronic ailment.

#4. Decision Making

We do not realize, but we often listen to our intuitions every day. From choosing what to eat to what to wear, we listen to our intuitions. When we trust our intuitions, we are able to make better decisions. We do not know what a decision may bring in future, but if we have an intuition about the decision then we can be a little assured of the outcome. If we feel that a certain decision will bring fortune, then we should go ahead with it but if you get a gut feeling that it won’t work out, then avoid making the decision. Intuitions will help us make better decisions with time if we follow them. Do not completely rely on your intuitions because they do not show you the future. They are mere feelings you get therefore use reasoning along with trusting our intuitions to make a better decision.

#5. Risks

Following your intuitions can help you in taking smarter risks. If you feel that you need to take a risk in life to grow further, then you should listen to your intuitions. When you listen to your intuitions, you will be able to decide what may work better for you and where should you invest or take a risk. However, risks need logical support and reasonable analysis. So, do not rely on your intuitions primarily.

#6. Extend Support

When you start listening to your intuitions, you can help yourself as well as others. It is not necessary that the intuition will be about you only. It can be about the other person you are close to or someone who is sharing their problem with you. It happens a lot of time that your friend shares their problem with you and they ask for your take on it. At that moment you can listen to your intuition, and you can help the other person in need. When a friend or a colleague share their problem and the solution they have found you feel that it will not work. This is what your intuition is telling you about the decision the other person has made and by following it you can tell the other person about how you feel about their decision. The other person may listen to you and save themselves from getting into another problem.

#7. Inner voice

When you start practicing to follow your intuition, you start connecting with the inner voice. The inner voice tells you about the things that are right and wrong. The inner voice guides you towards a better life. You get to know about yourself. You get to know about your body, mind, and soul. When you have reached your inner voice, you have come in unison with your soul. A person who is connected with their soul leads a healthy life. A healthy mind, body leads to a healthy life. So listening to your intuitions will not only make you healthy but it also makes you wealthy because health is wealth.

#8. Learn

You can learn a lot of things around you and how they work if you trust your intuitions. Intuitions teach you a lot of lessons that otherwise you would not have learned. A lot of philosophies and theories have been concluded by a lot of philosophers and psychologists. When you start trusting your intuitions, you start to experience the reality. If it does then you will become more curious about learning those theories. The cultures and the religions that follow intuitions and the school which follows intuitions will teach you a lot about life. You will not only know about intuitions, but you will discover different cultures and their beliefs. Your knowledge arena will be widened, and you will become a successful personality.

#9. Trust In Self

When you start making right decisions, and you start learning a lot, then you also start gaining confidence in yourself. You listen to your inner voice, and that teaches you something. It teaches you to become optimistic, to be patient and to help others. When you practice all of these traits, your confidence will rise, and you will start valuing yourself.
