Ranking DreamWorks Animated Movies From The Best To Worst

DreamWorks Animation studio was founded in 1994 and has since then delivered few of the most amazing and mind boggling animated movies. With hits like 'Shrek,' 'Rise of the Guardian' and 'Madagascar,' the studio has challenged the stronghold of Disney and  Pixar.

The best part of these movies has always been the humor, with which each member of the family, be it the little ones or the adults has been able to relate with.

Here’s a list of the best and the worst productions of DreamWorks Animation Studio.

BEST MOVIES

#1. SHREK (2001)

Shrek released out in 2001 and was an immediate hit. The vast glory that the movie garnered showered it with the first ever Academy Award for the Best Animated Feature Film. The hero Mike Meyers was successful in gaining a humorous rapport with Eddie Murphy's Donkey. The film was an enormous hit at the box office, majorly because it catered entertainment for all age groups.

#2. CHICKEN RUN (2000)

Another super hit, this was a fable story where a band of chickens was trying to find out ways to escape the poultry. They had no hopes of escape until Rocky; a crackerjack chicken came to their rescue. He figured out the route to get away, and it happens to be the right time to do so because the owner was planning on cooking them all at once to make pot pies. The movie has been woven cleverly and in a unique manner which was appreciated by the audience.

#3. HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON (2010)

Starring Jay Baruchel and Gerard Butler, the movie revolves around a young kid who befriends a dragon and with the help of “Toothless” plans to impress his terrible father. The story turns out to be funny when the two of them are held with more responsibility than they could have even imagined. It is a visual delight and counts as another masterpiece of DreamWorks.

#4. KUNG FU PANDA 2 (2011)

“Po,” the panda became the cutest animated creature for the whole world after the humongous success of Kung Fu Panda. With its success, a sequel was surely in line. Unlike other sequels, this was not a disappointment. In fact, it was as solid as the first one. The life lessons may not be that deep and touching, but the animation covers up all the shortfalls. The action and humor make the movie a must watch.

WORST MOVIES

#1. SHARK TALE (2004)

This one is said to be one of the worst productions of the studio. The script was ugly and poorly written. Leave aside the adults; even the kids were not very happy with this one. The characters were not strong enough to indulge the audience. The voices were rather annoying, and the main characters were not as smart as they were expected to be. The animation too wasn't up to the mark.

#2. OVER THE HEDGE (2006)

This one revolves around a group of forest creatures who just woke up from their hibernation and finds humans moving on their landscape. The situation has both good and bad implications. While the movie is fun to watch, it mostly failed to impress the audience despite featuring the cutest forest creatures that are downright funny and hilarious. The characters are voiced by actors, Bruce Willis and Steve Carell.

#3. ANTZ (1998)

Even with an amazing cast including, Woody Allen, Sharon Stone, Jennifer Lopez, Sylvester Stallone, Dan Aykroyd, Anne Bancroft, and Gene Hackman the movie could not do much at the box office. The film revolves around Z, a young ant who has his eyes on the colony's Queen's daughter Bala, who doesn't show the same interests. She changes her mind when Z mounts a revolution and proves his worth. The movie could not hold the viewer's attention for long. It was a big box office fail.
