Can you drink Distilled Water?

The process of distillation has been going on for ages, but due to the complexities involved, the process cannot take place between the closed walls of your house, especially without the required apparatus. Distilled water is almost like purified water, distinguished by the manner of purification.

But does that make Distilled water safe for drinking?

Can You Drink Distilled Water?

The process of distillation involves boiling the water to the point that it evaporated completely. The vapors are later condensed and converted to water again to give you a bottle of distilled water. According to the studies of the Environmental Protection Agency, the pH of distilled water is acidic because the carbon dioxide present in the air gets dissolved in the water during the process. The pH of distilled water usually lies between five and six tenths and seven. The agency suggests adding 1/8 teaspoon baking soda or a drop of ammonia to the distilled water to neutralize it.

While some prefer drinking distilled water, other feel that drinking water that has such high levels of pH can be dangerous to the health. The process of purifying water by distillation robs it from all its nutrients and minerals. So the ones who consume it might feel:

• A flat taste which would lead to reducing their daily water consumption

• A decrease in their metabolism

• An increase in urine production which can result in an electrolyte imbalance

Should You Drink Distilled Water?

Because distilled water lacks minerals and vitamins, its regular consumption might cause low levels of magnesium and calcium in your body. Deficiencies of these nutrients can result in high blood pressure and irregularities in the heartbeat. Similarly, when you cook food in distilled water, the food will lack the essential nutritional value.

Distilled water is a quick absorber and therefore absorbs all the carbon dioxide present in the air making the water highly acidic. Drinking acidic water on an everyday basis will surely have its adverse effects.

Distillation is the process in which water is boiled, evaporated and the vapor condensed. The water that is distilled is free of dissolved minerals and, because of this, it can actively absorb toxic substances from the body and eliminate them. Studies validate the benefits of drinking distilled water when one is seeking to cleanse or detoxify the system for short periods of time (a few weeks at a time).

Due to its absorption qualities, distilled water is a popular choice for soft drink manufacturers. These excessively harmful beverages are produced using distilled water, so one can easily imagine how unhealthy can this water be.

No, They Are Different

Distilled water is processed by boiling it. The contaminants which are there in the water like metals have a very high boiling and melting point. So, after the water is boiled, all the contaminants left behind are no more active. Hence, we can call it distilled water. Purified water is made to meet the threshold of the measured quality of purification. The impurity which is dissolved in the purified water shall not be more than 10 part per million gallons of water. This is a real high standard which has to be maintained when we ask for purified water. Filter water is often mixed with purified water. Whereas, this is not always true.
