Delhi has worst air polution in India

New Delhi is in the news again but for wrong reasons. The Air Quality Index rating for the Indian Capital city shows that it is the most polluted city in the world. The severity of the problem can be understood from the fact that the particle count in some regions of New Delhi is 16 times more than what is permissible as per the Indian Government standards.

So, what can be the real cause for this pollution? Though the fumes post Diwali festivities are blamed for this rise in pollution, but the real problem is far severe. Increasing vehicles and the unchecked use of Diesel is compounding the problem and analysts and scientists find themselves in a tight spot on this front.

The concentration of PM 2.5 has increased to around 700 micrograms per cubic meter and no solution is in sight. Breathing in such polluted air means that every citizen of Delhi is smoking around two cigarette packs on daily basis.

Breathlessness and giddiness are some of the immediate symptoms of exposure to air pollution and the hospitals in New Delhi are seeing an increase in number of such patients.

Solving pollution issues is a complex problem and it requires pro active solutions. If no timely action is taken then our future generations will be in peril.
