A stalker is a person who follows or monitors another individual either by himself/herself or through other people. What could be more annoying than to be watched all the time by someone as cheap as a stalker?
Lately, stalking has become a fashion and today’s youth are being influenced either by movies or due to the encouragement of the people who call themselves “Friends” fall into this trap of stalking without realising that this dangerous step taken by them would put their entire life into a major jeopardy.

Before dealing with how to handle the stalker, let us take a look at how a person turns into a stalker. Studies have shown that there is a probability that this nature of following somebody could be genetically influenced, the person could be mentally sick, or infatuated by the victim, etc, etc.
Genetically mutated inborn stalking nature of a person cannot be altered, but we can try giving counselling. If the person has some mental disorders, treatment, medicines and counselling are the possible options of helping him/her.
Infatuation could be mainly due to movies and romantic novels. Love at first sight is what our heroes and heroines these days follow. Hence, the person watching the movie or reading the book becomes imbibed with this act and do exactly what their favourite star has done. Friends would ignite and add ghee on to the fire guiding them in the wrong path.
How to handle a stalker?
1. First and foremost step would be to “Ignore”. Never give a damn to him/her, just ignore the person’s acts and stupid stunts provided he/she maintains the distance and is decent. If we react, they get encouraged and the situation will go from bad to worse.
There are girls who would shout, insult and even show their slippers at the stalker. We can understand the victim’s frustration due to stalking, but these insults are only going to aggravate things more.
Therefore the best first move would be to ignore.
2. If the person makes nasty moves, the parents or a “reliable” person in the family can be informed. If the stalker and the family are known to the victim, a meeting can be arranged between the parents of the two and an amicable understanding can be taken.
If the person is unknown, the parents can accompany the girl/boy, could confront the stalker and the family.
There is nothing that is not possible, so if the meeting goes in the right way, this issue can be dealt with easily without making the scene ugly and cheap.
3. If the meeting turns out to be unsuccessful and the stalker is still continuing with troubling the victim, the next step could be to approach either the police department or any counselling agency, they would be of some great help to the victim and the family.
But before approaching the police, always gather enough evidence against the stalker, like phone calls, text messages, letters, greeting cards, etc, etc. Without evidence, the police cannot take necessary action against the stalker.
4. Once a person realises that he/she is being stalked, immediately inform friends, relatives and people at work not to reveal any personal detail to anyone who requests for it. Do not accept an unknown person's friend request in Facebook, Whatsapp, or any other social sites.
5. Sometimes, the victim could find it difficult to talk about being stalked to parents or anybody reliable due to communication gap. That’s when the trouble mounts and if proper action is not taken at the right time, there are instances where the stalker would go to the extent of murdering the victim.
So, it is all in the hands of the parents to control their child and nurture him/her in such a way so that their kid grows up into a responsible good person.

Even genetically affected children, can be counselled in the beginning itself so that a stalker does not come out as one amongst us. Another important aspect is bad friendship as it will only end up with bad character. So the parents need to check their child’s friends too in the beginning stage itself
Stalking is a crime and the person who indulges in it could end up in prison for a maximum period of 1 to 3 years. So guys! do not stalk anybody, if you like somebody, go talk to that person. If he/she does not like you, it is absolutely fine, it means that there is someone even more better than this girl/boy waiting because each and every one of us is so special and deserve the best life partner.

This is serious crime and law must prevail a way to stop this with the immediate effect.
