#1. Get A Sports Management Degree

We understand that a sports agent job is of high practical nature, where your real world performance means everything. However, until you’ve been born and bred in a family full of successful sports agents, you can most likely use some knowledge on the trade of a sports agent. This is where getting a proper sports management degree becomes so crucial. There are always certain basics in every job, and a basic bachelor’s degree in sports management can equip you with all the weapons you need to start out as a sports agent. You can choose for an internship under a reputed sports agent in your locality if you wish to learn some tips and tricks regarding the on-field job.

#2. Licenses And Registrations

Another reason why you absolutely need a basic degree in sports management degree is that it is a pre-requisite if you wish to register yourself as a professional sports agent, who is recognized by the sporting fraternity. Getting licensed is absolutely crucial as it further adds credibility to your name. In fact, some countries need you to have a license for being a sports agent, if you are expecting to become a recognized sports agent.

#3. Earn A Professional Degree

Your best bet would be to get a degree in the study of law. Sports agents are the first people who look at the contracts that are offered to their clients by a sports team. These contracts contain a lot of legalities, and if you are not familiar with them, then many people can trick you and your client into signing a contract that might not be suitable for him/her. However, if you do have a degree in the study of law, you would mostly know all the legalities that a professional contract contains. This way, you can ensure that your client gets the best deal possible, and you end up pocketing more money in commissions. So, if you’ve already got yourself licensed, get up and earn a professional degree in law.

#4. Start Out

Every job in this world asks for a certain level of experience, and a sports agent job is no different. Here is the thing: your earnings depend directly on the number of clients you have. Also, it depends on the quality of your clients. If you represent the best sportspeople out there, you’ll most likely make more money out of them. For that to happen, you first need to build a solid CV for yourself before the top players start trusting you with their future. Start small. Get in touch with mediocre players and get them good contracts. Slowly work your way up, and it is only a matter of time before you establish yourself in the upper echelons of a top sports agent.

I believe that we “do not” need a degree to be a Certified Sports Agent. It’s not necessary to get a degree in the related field to be a professional. We can have the required experience and work as a Sports Agent. A sports agent helps to manage the legal work and make professional deals. They also help to manage the finances of the sportsperson. Whereas, there are some organizations where you need a degree to match their basic requirements of a Sports Agent. I personally believe that your talent doesn’t need a certification. You are what you are and, you will be what you want yourself to be!
