How to turn a Hobby into a Full-Time job?

How did you determine the kind of profession you are going to take up? Did you make the decision on the basis of the dreams you had and the things you enjoyed doing the most? Did you make this choice on the basis of the money you will get to earn or because you found the option glamorous? Did you take into consideration how much you will enjoy the work you will be doing, or you took into consideration the kind of money you will be able to earn from the career?

There is one thing we do not take into account when we make a career decision. This is the fact that you will actually have to spend the majority of your time doing this work and fulfilling the demands of this profession for the rest of your life. What becomes important is how happy you will be doing this work, because if this has to take up most of the time of the majority of your life, it better make you happy. Otherwise, it will mean you are making a compromise for the rest of your entire life. When we decide on our career we look at a source of financial abundance, we look at the career we are going to have and not at a livelihood we are going to create. The thing that separates a livelihood from a career is the fact that a livelihood will always be something that takes into account your emotional wellbeing and your creative satisfaction.

When we choose to become something that will involve our hobbies as a part of the skills required for the work, we make sure we are doing something that will not only help us improve our financial status but, also help us to be happy and successful. The reason people who are successful also become more prosperous is because they have chosen to make their passions their career. They do not need a vacation to rejuvenate themselves, their work is the fuel for their life, and the passion they are able to infuse into what they are doing is all the result of the creative satisfaction they get from this job. This is why it becomes very important to choose a profession that is based on the hobbies you have and gives you a good amount of creative satisfaction. When you are happy doing what you are doing on a regular basis, you are going to put in your 100% and make sure you give your best to each thing you choose to do. When you are giving all your energy to the work, you are also making sure the quality of the work is good enough. This is the reason the people who love their work become successful and are able to make better progress in comparison to people who are not happy with the work they do.

Irrespective of the career we are pursuing at the present moment in our life, there always comes a time when we realize the lack of creative expression and the lack of the ability to do something that we are passionate about. It is at such point of time that we need to make some changes in our work life. Have you been experiencing the same sort of thing? Are you looking at making your hobbies your profession? Do you wish to make a career out of your hobbies? Are you not satisfied with the kind of work that you are doing on a regular basis and wish to do something that gives you joy and happiness? Here are the things you can do to make your hobbies your full-time profession and live the life of your dreams.

#1. The most important thing to keep in mind is what exactly you wish to do. If you are considering a change in your career and wish to switch to something that you are passionate about, you will need to make it clear in your mind first, as to what is it that you wish to do really. If you wish is vague, you will not have a proper action plan to follow and will not know where you are going. If you lack a proper action plan, it will be impossible for you to move ahead steadily. The more specific your plan is, the better.

This will include a proper plan of action, for example: will you take your hobby and convert it into a business and how will you do that? Do you wish to teach the skill, or do you wish to write about it? Something as clear as these things will prove to be very helpful.

#2. Make sure you do not jump into this new idea on day one. It may be hard for you to hang on to the kind of job you are doing at the moment, it might get frustrating on days. But, you will have to make a move slow and steady. You need to keep in mind the fact that your new venture will not start producing great results from day one. Irrespective of it being a business, a new job, a new service, a blog or any new venture, you will have to give it time to establish and grow. You will have to keep in mind your financial stability. If you make the change and take a leap without a backup plan, you may screw up your financial status and also hamper the chances of your new venture becoming successful.

The best thing in this kind of a venture is to take one step at a time and let it grow then invest more into it and finally take it up full-time.

#3. Another thing you can consider is to keep your full-time job and pursue your hobby part-time. This will ensure your financial needs are taken care of. If you need to make any investment into your new venture, you can do that easily. At the same time, you will be able to pursue your passion, it will have enough time to grow, and once you are doing well with it, you will be able to take it up full-time. The idea is to make sure you take up your hobby as a full-time career, at the same time you will need to make sure you give it the required time to grow and become good enough.

This time span which your new venture is going to take to grow will be more of a waiting period, and it will be essential for you to hang on till then. For this, the best option is to start part-time and let it take off.

#4. Make sure you take a step, do something to take you closer to your goal of making your hobby your profession, on a regular basis. It will be best if you do at least one thing each day that will take you closer to your end goal of making your hobby your full-time career. This will ensure your new venture is moving ahead on a regular basis and is not stuck as just an idea.

The thought of being able to go out there and do a job that makes you happy and brings out the best in
you is the most amazing thing that can happen to any person. When we make a career decision, not all
of us are able to keep this in mind. We are too young to understand what we will need to give to our
career and the idea that it is going to determine what we give to the world. There are many who
understand this and take decisions accordingly. But, there are most of us who fail to understand the
importance of choosing a career. The fact that it is a lot more than just a medium for earning money is
not what is clear to us as teenagers who have to take the decision regarding our career.
What I have realized from my experience is the fact that, when you start doing what you are passionate
about, irrespective of when you start, you feel exhilarated. You get to do what you are passionate about
each and every day. You feel blissful and are most often waiting to get to work. You will not want holidays
anymore and each day will be filled with passion. Along with the massive change it brings in your
approach towards life, it will surely help you realize the importance of not just having a job, but, actually
having a livelihood which is an amalgamation of your hobbies.
It also makes you feel positive about yourself, because you had the courage to make a decision which is
liberating and not based on the norms made by the society. When you take decisions for your own
happiness, you make sure you keep yourself first; this increases your sense of self-worth and self-respect.
At the end of the day it is about making your life worth living and making sure you contribute to the
society in the best way possible.
What I have realized is when you take responsibility of your happiness, you do what you love doing the
most, you begin to contribute to making your and others life better in ways you may have not thought
about. All of the above awesome feelings make it worth it to take steps for making your hobby your full
time career.
When we can make each day count, and get closer to what we feel is our purpose in the society, we
make sure we are living a fulfilling life. We can choose to live a life where we earn money and respect,
but, if we fail to achieve a sense of creative satisfaction and the feeling of living a fulfilling life, we fail to
make the best use of the life and resources we are given. We can continue to live like that, but most
often it becomes impossible to live a meaningless life. It is in the search for meaning that we need to
make our hobby our profession and live a fulfilling and joyful life, and not a life that feels like a hopeless
compulsion.
