Going by these words that emitted from the mouth of our first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, the legacy left by him is too great to be measured by the 53 years that have passed since his death. 

Fondly referred to as ‘Chacha Nehru’ by the younger lot, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was a man of sharp wit, eloquent words, and a golden heart. Though a lot is known about him yet there are some interesting details to his life that many are not aware of. On the day of his 53rd death anniversary, let's take a look at some of the lesser-known details of his life.

1) Pt. Nehru was home tutored by governesses and tutors till the age of 15.

2) The flame of nationalism awakened in him when he overheard Brigadier General Dyer’s gloating over The Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

3) He always absolutely despised the heavy security that followed him everywhere.

4) Being a true liberal and secular at heart, he penned Article 44 which forms the basis of secularism in India.

5) In his decision to shun western attire, he unintentionally started a fashion trend, 'Nehru Jackets' which still continues.
