Living in the Tinder age, it’s quite normal to plan meetings with people we talk online. In times when a right swipe is just enough to fix you a date, online dating is no more a big deal.
Yet, there is a big BUT to it. Internet dating calls for safety measures.
Here’s a list of internet dating safety tips you should keep in mind.
#1. Stay Anonymous
The Internet is a mischievous world; you never know who is on the other side of the chat box. Online meet-ups might have become a regular thing for most of us, but safety should still be your priority. Staying anonymous on the internet is one way to do it. Do not use your real names, location or any other personal information when interacting with strangers. If the app requires you to sign in with your location then make sure you fill it up with a general one instead of being too specific.

#2. Background Check
While online dating sounds fun and exciting, it is highly important to do a background check on the person you are getting involved with. It is just a matter of few words to make someone make you go gaga about them; it is strictly advised to check their background details. We do not suggest hiring the CBI but keeping a track on their social media activities and connecting with the mutual friends might be of great help.

#3. Keep It Slow
When you start liking someone, it is natural to flow into the pool of emotions and unveil your real self. While developing an emotional connection is important, it is also important to keep a check on how much you reveal. Take things slow. Let things naturally fall into place. Just like Reed B Markham said, “Hasty decisions can lead to wasteful outcomes.”

#4. Choose The Venue Wisely
Now that you have finally planned on meeting the online friend make sure that you choose a public place, filled with people. Don’t choose a place that is too close or too far from your house. Choosing a place that you visit often will make things comfortable. If possible, make your first meeting during the day instead of a late night dinner.

#5. Take A Friend Along
If you are nervous about the first meet, then ask a friend to accompany you. Try to pick someone who has a private vehicle; it will help you run away if the online friend turns out to be a jerk!

#6. Flood Them With Questions
First meetings are usually trials. Keep the conversation lively and make sure of bringing in the topics that you have talked about online. This works as a cross checker and also, will make the two of you comfortable, releasing you from the burden of bringing in interesting topics to talk about.

#7. Avoid Drinking
First meetings are supposedly awkward, but alcohol is not the best solution. Alcohol consumption might loosen you up more than required. Try to avoid meeting at a bar or pub for the first time. But in case you do, make sure to stick to just one drink preferably the one with low alcohol content.
